INTRO
From a young age, I've always wanted to travel the world.
I blame my mom for this. She was the one decorating the house with photos of the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, or the Italian coast. During the holidays, she would buy little British biscuits and treats for the mornings. She even bought me a book so I could learn French at age 9...it didn't work. But, it was only right that when I came of age, I got my opportunity to travel.
At the beginning of every school year, students from the senior class go on an optional class trip. The destination differs, and when us juniors got the news that our senior trip would be to Europe, my best friend Madison and I immediately signed up. Two weeks abroad, no parents, no homework, just travel and fun? Who could refuse?
I spent the summer before senior year actively preparing for this trip. I printed a major list of everything I would need, I bought my first ever passport, I worked a small babysitting job to earn money for souvenirs, and I slowly began to pack. Maddie and I even had matching countdown calendars.
When Maddie came to my house on that Sunday morning, jumping on my bed to wake me up, I couldn't believe it. The time had come. By 3pm I would be on a plane to Heathrow Airport. Little did I know, my life was about to change.
