It was two weeks before school let out when me, my sister, and my dad moved to the valley from Georgia. I wasn't like most girls that were in my grade. I was thirteen not twelve. I got held back in third grade because of my reading skills. Not to mention I was a tomboy. I loved flannel shirts, baseball, and I hated pink.
"Are we there yet dad?" I asked from the backseat. I couldn't wait to see the new house (note the sarcasm)."We are almost there Marissa." My dad and my sister said unison. We turned onto a street witch I found out was mine. It was a two floored house with a rose bush in the front yard. "So Marissa this is it. By the way you get the biggest bedroom."
I smiled at that statement I never get the big bedroom. When I filed out of my dad's Packer before I could rush to the front door my sister yelled, "Marissa Megan Hayven! Do you really think you can get out of unpacking the packer that easily?!" I started to unpack when I noticed something from the corner of my eye. Even if it was hard to see through my dark brown curls I could tell it was a boy.
He looked about my age and he had dark brown hair vary close to black. He was wearing a a blue baseball cap and a baseball jersey. I looked in his direction and waved. The reason why I had no idea. That's when I saw he had a baseball mitt. He smiled a little and nodded so I knew he saw me. He kept on walking until he came to a house about two yards down, and he went inside guessed it was his.
I went inside to find out that my bedroom was down stairs. Just great. For the rest of the day I unpacked and put my stuff in my room. I put my bed next to the window and I hung all of my drawings and posters on the walls. I put my favorite record on my record player which was next to my bed. It was about 10:59 when I was finally done I tried to go to sleep but I couldn't help but think what will my life be like now.
I have no friends, I know nothing about the town, and tomorrow was Saturday. I looked at the clock on the wall it was 11:30. Then I heard a small knock on my window. I turned around in the bed and opened the window to be face to face with the boy from that morning.
"Um.. Hi." He stammered like he didn't know what to say. I couldn't believe this it was in the middle of the night and some boy was outside my window.
"Uh hi. How my I help you?" I asked him the sooner I find out what he want the sooner I get to go to sleep."I just wanted to say hi considering I didn't this morning. My name is Benjamin Rodriguez, but you can call me Benny," he held out his hand so I could shake it.
"Well hi Benny I'm Marissa Megan Hayvan, but you can call me Marrissa or Rocky," I comment before I took his hand in mine for a handshake. "So do you mind telling me how you found out which bedroom was mine, and the real reason why you are here?"
"Well I thought it was yours because I heard some music and your dad and that girl does not look like a music person. The real reason why I'm here is because.." His voice started to trail off like he didn't want to say what he was going to say next. "..I uh wanted to um know your name." I could tell he was lying.
"And what else did you want to tell me in the middle of the night?" I urged him to continue what he was going to say.
"Ok I'm here to see if you like baseball," he was still lying I could tell.
"Benny. Tell me the truth."
"Ok well one do you want to come and watch me and my friends play baseball tomorrow and two what do you think of this town so far?" He managed to say all of that in one breath.
"I don't know about both of them." I said ending my sentence with a yawn. "Any thing else."
Benny hesitated before nodding, "I was also wondering if I could um.. If I could ask you if you want to be friends?"
"Sure." I stated quickly so I could go to sleep. I then had let out another yawn. Benny probably could tell I was sleepy because he started to leave. "Hey Benny wait." What was I doing?
Benny turned to look at me with a smile on his face. I could tell he felt uncomfortable considering he was shifting from side to side. He had a twig in his hair and some scratches on his face I guess he got them from the bushes that were in front of my window.
"Yeah?"
"Goodnight," I whispered with a faint smile.
"Night, Rocky." He whispered back as he walked off. Wow he actually used the nickname. After the conversation with Benny I was ready for bed. I could feel my eye lids getting heavier and heavier. Then I finally drifted off to sleep.
