Emily Carrol

Carroll was born in June1983 and was born in London, Ontario, Canada. She moved to Vancouverto work after she graduated from Sheridan College's Classical Animation Program. Now she is living in Stratford, Ontario, Canada.

In 2010 Emily Carroll drewher first graphic novel. She also won the Joe Shuster Award for Outstanding Web comics. Her novel of short horror stories waspublished in July 2014.

Through the Woods saw over night success when she published it online on Halloween. Her inspiration for Through the Woods and other horror novels probably came from the scary stories her mother use to tell her when she was alittle girl. One of the stories in the book which is called The Nesting Place and as it says in the review by Rachel Cooke the author of Blankets (Craig Thompson) said that the story lines remind him of Brothers Grimm. According to Rachel Cooke, Thompson said 'Carroll's talent is immense: the mood of these stories is Brothers Grimm' and' while her drawings, so fluidly lavish and atmospheric, seem to channel.' While looking at her work, I have come to really like it.The reason being is because the use of colours and drawings really capture the theme and atmosphere of horror. The drawings really makeyou feel like you are in the story as you the imagery shows you exactly how the world is. Also many other novels she has created follow the same style of layout and drawings, which I will talk more about in the artist comparison later on.

kazu kibuish

In 2013 he illustrated paper back additions of the Harry Potter books. He now lives with his wife Amy Kim, who is a comic book creator and their children. The Amulet: The Stone Keeper book 1 waspublished in 2008.

The book is about a young girl named Emily, who inherits a magic amulet from her family. Then along with her brother is transported to another world called Alledia, where the Elf king wants to kill her.

Darin Strauss, said in his review, 'Amulet' is a derivative schmaltz-fest: obvious, goofy, and a breath-quickening thrill read.' Although I haven't really read the novel, I really like the artwork from it. The bright and simple images really capture the novel's genre which is fantasy.
