ASH'S POV

I wake up impossibly early, as usual, and open my curtains to watch the sun rise over the small town I've moved to. It's quaint, and from my house I can see almost all of it, from the tall steeple of the church near the market square to the collections of houses that stretch off into the distance, all of them huddled together as if they're trying to warm against the early morning chill. I watch the sun start to kiss the river that intertwines through the town, wakening the ducks and the other small river animals, creating a stir of life. I've found that wherever I go, one thing remains the same. As soon as the sun begins to rise, life begins to move again, even if it is just the awakening of a few ducks.

I lean my head against the cool window and watch my breath fog it up, blurring the picturesque view I have been admiring for the past hour. I really hope I can stay here, but I hope that every time, and everytime we leave. I turn my back upon the sleeping town and stare gloomily at the mountains of cardboard boxes towering over my bed. I may aswell unpack these whilst I can, the sooner they are unpacked, the sooner I can pretend my life is normal.

3 hours pass and my alarm clock signals the time for me to wake up and get ready for school. I don't know why I set it, I'm always awake atleast 4 hours before it goes off, no matter what time I fall asleep. I lift myself out of the messy but organised piles of stuff and get changed, ready for my first day at school.

It's always the same, everyone rushes to say hi, the girls bat their eyelashes and the teachers tell you how amazing the facilities are here and how friendly everyone is. Then, after letting atleast 50 girls down and achieving good grades, I move and start it all again.

It's not my parents fault I guess. My dad's in the RAF, and so we move almost constantly. It wouldn't be so frequent if he wasn't so high up but he's the authortive type and I guess that got him far. The pay's good though, we have a nice big house to enjoy for a couple of months, perhaps even a year if I'm extremely lucky.

After brushing my teeth and kissing my mum on the cheek, I leave the house and stroll along the roadside on the way to school. I'm slightly early but I assume I have a meeting with the head to sit through and being late wouldn't help anything.

Once entering the school grounds I head towards the reception, only to be greeted by a 60 year old, grey haired, prickly lipped lady with rouge smeared along her chin. She smiles at me revealing her crooked teeth, and pushes a school map aswell as a timetable towards me, drumming her manicured nails along the reception desk.

"Your first period is in A7, right here" she said in a husky voice, obviously a smoker, whilst circling the building on the map.

"Thanks...uhm, do I meet the headmaster or do anything like that?" I queried, surprised that I hadn't been introduced to anyone important yet.

"Nope, he'll see you if he needs to. Have a good day" she said, closing the conversation.

I turned and left the reception slightly confused as to what I was supposed to do. I had already missed the majority of form time by this point, but I decided to walk in the direction of my form room so I knew where to go tomorrow. With my head bent over my map, I entered the building and followed the directions before slamming straight into another pupil. Great first impression Ash.

The papers he was holding fell all over the floor and I hurried to help him pick them up. I asume he was pissed at me because he wouldn't talk, even when I apologised. Oh shit, what if he's a mute though... or deaf?

"Don't you talk or something? Like a mute? Shit, are you deaf, I know some sign language one sec" I flustered, desperately trying to not make a fool out of myself. I always get embarrassed when I'm around hot people, it's never really bothered me this much though. Damn, he's cute.

His black hair is messy and hangs around his face and his jawline is sharp, a slight weakness of mine. His eyes are a deep brown, although it's difficult to tell considering he's avoiding my gaze.

Shame. I think he's straight.

"Nope, I'm not deaf. Just busy" He says in a lazy drawl, obviously bored by my company, or just bored in general. I smile unintentionally though, as his face tilts to look up at mine. I can feel the blush rising up my neck. I swear, I can't even try and be straight. "I've not seen you before, you new?" he asks almost hesitantly as if he's never spoke to someone before.

"Yea" I reply, "My name's Ash"

"Jay" he offers whilst smiling a little.

I have to make a hurried goodbye as the first bell rings, and I watch as he rushes away to deliver the last bundle of papers. I swiftly walk in the direction of the English block, hoping that he'll be there too.
