AUTHOR'S NOTE: The italics are a flash back
I'm pulled out of my peaceful state as my pillow starts shifting. Letting out a groan of protest I snuggle deeper into it, trying to shield my eyes from the light coming it through cracks in the curtains. Only then do I realize Dean is my pillow. We're in the exact position I woke up to a few hours ago. "Mornin' Sparkles." Dean says once he notices I'm awake, his voice thick with sleep. "Mornin" I mutter not ready to get out bed. "We should take a road trip." Dean suggests after a few moments of silence. "Today?" I ask hoping he says yes. "Why not? Neither of us has anything planned, and it's been a while since we've gone on one." He says weighing the pros and cons in his head. "I'm down." I say trying to hide my excitement. Dean's chest vibrates underneath me as he chuckles "Remember the first road trip we took?" He says and I just know he's smiling at the memory. "The first one we took just the two of us?" I ask with a smile tugging at the corner of my lips. "Yeah" He replies softly. "Of course, I remember, it was a great trip." I say into his chest. My smile grows as memories from the trip rush to my mind. Elizabeth and I had just turned sixteen. My parents had finally decided that I was old enough to go on a solo road trip with Dean. They have always trusted Dean. Probably because of his overprotective demeanor towards me, and the fact that he's three years older than me. Filled with excitement I ran up to my parents and hugged them with all of my strength thanking them over and over again. Making them laugh at my enthusiasm. Running up stairs with Dean a few steps behind me, I burst into my room immediately walking up to my closet. "What are you doing?" Dean asked with a laugh. "Packing." I answered as I pulled out a black duffel bag from the shelf on top of my closet. "Oh, you want to go on this road trip... right now?" He said in a teasing tone raising his eyebrows at me. "Duh." I scoffed shoving different articles of clothes I deemed necessary for the trip into my duffel bag. Dean was leaning against my dresser watching me with an amused smile on his face. I stood still for a moment looking up and scrunching my nose in concentration trying to think of things I'd need on the trip. "Toothbrush!" I yelled proudly as I headed to my bathroom. Deans deep laughter rang through my room as I walked into the bathroom to retrieve my toothbrush. The travel size toothpaste is in the main bathroom. "I'll be right back." I say as I head for the door leading to the hallway. I'm about to step out of my room when I suddenly turn around "Stay out of my underwear drawer." I say pointing a finger at Dean. "No promises." He replies with a smirk. I roll my eyes scoffing at Dean's reply and heading toward the main bathroom to retrieve the travel size toothpaste. Once I finish packing we head to Dean's house after bidding my parents goodbye. Dean packs quickly and before I know it I'm riding shotgun in Dean's Camaro. We drive in silence, except for whatever is playing on the radio. "Where are we going?" I ask breaking the silence. "It's a surprise you're just going to have to wait till we get there." Dean answers my question. I let out a huff of annoyance but I don't voice my complaints. I hate slash love surprises and Dean knows this. On one hand, the idea of a mystery excites me, but on the other, I completely lack patience. The sun will begin to set soon, yet I was already feeling tired. "Go to sleep." Dean said once he noticed me beginning to doze off. "I can't get comfortable enough." I reply shifting in my seat. Dean glances at me before reaching over with his right hand and unbuckling my seat belt. "Lay down." He suggests. "Isn't it dangerous to not wear my seat belt?" I ask but lay down nonetheless. "Not with me behind the wheel." He states confidently. "True." I acknowledge as I rest my head on his lap. His right hand immediately goes to my hair, gently massaging my scalp. "Mmm." I let out a moan of pleasure. "Keep both hands on the steering wheel." I protest even though I don't want him to stop. "Relax, I'm a good driver." He speaks the truth, I have been his passenger countless times and he has never done anything reckless "I would never do anything to put you in danger, you know that." He says in a sad voice as if he's doubting my trust in him. I pull his hand from my hair and sit up, hurt flashes though Dean's face and I immediately wrap my arms around him. He returns the hug with one arm, having to keep one hand on the wheel at all times. "I know Dean." I whisper needing to make the sadness in his voice disappear. He plants a kiss on my hair line, then whispers "You should get some sleep." I pull back from our embrace and lay my head on his lap once again, facing Deans stomach this time. My feet resting on the passenger seat where I had sat earlier. I note that if anyone else rested their feet on Dean's Camaro, he would have their head on a stick. But he doesn't seem to mind when I do it. I grip his shirt in my hand and bury my nose into his stomach. His right-hand reaches over the backseat as he retrieves a blanket. He drapes in over me, surprising well considering he's only using one hand. Instead of returning his hand to the wheel he runs it through my hair. He's trying to make me sleepy by running his hand through my hair over and over again. I know because I do it to him all the time. I hate to admit it, but it's working. Shortly after I'm sound asleep. "Sparkles." Dean whispers slightly shaking my shoulders to wake me up. As soon as I open my eyes I am met with big blue orbs staring back. The moonlight makes them seem brighter. Then I realize it's sometime in the middle of the night and we're parked on the side of a dirt road. "I want to show you something."Dean whispers once again. I sit up and he opens the car door, helping me out. He grabs the blanket as I wrap my arms around myself, trying to shield myself from the cool breeze. "Are you cold?" Dean asks when he sees me running my hands up and down my arms. "A little bit." I reply biting my lip. Dean places the blanket on the roof of the car and reaches into the back seat, pulling out his leather jacket. He holds it up signaling for me to slip my arms into the sleeves. His smell immediately surrounds me. I inhale breathing it in and letting it overwhelm me. His jacket is way too big for me, but that just adds to the comfort. He grabs the blanket in one hand and extends his other hand to me, waiting for me to take it. I roll up the sleeve on his jacket, just above my wrist. Once my hand is visible I immediately take his hand. "Where are we going?" I whisper because it feels wrong to break the silence. "You'll see." He whispers back, making me roll my eyes at the fact that he's keeping me in suspense. We walk in silence until we reach a clearing. Nothing to be seen but grass. We stop walking and Dean releases my hand in order to place the blanket on the ground. "Lay down with me." He suggests holding his hand out. I take it and he pulls me down with him. "Wow." I say once I notice the stars above us. "I thought you'd like it." Dean says with a smile."You thought right." I say admiring the incredible view. Thousands of stars littered across the sky. Brighter than ever, they remind me of Dean's eyes. "That's the big dipper." Dean says pointing it out for me. "That one looks like a smiley face." I say pointing out the set of stars. "Yeah it kind of does." Dean says with a small laugh. We stay quiet for a while, just staring up at the stars. I let out a yawn making Dean look down at me. He pulls away from me and hooks one arm under my knees and the other under my back. He picks me up with the blanket around me, and silently carries me to the car. The rest of the road trip was fun since we spent it at a water park. Road trips became a regular thing after that. "I just think it's time for another road trip." Dean says pulling me out of my thought. "I completely agree." I say as I feel my smile grow to the point that's it's almost painful.
