I then felt a sharp pain in my side.

I had let my guard down and the robot had hit the sword against my side.

"End," I said and the robot powered down. I clutched my side and felt the wetness of my blood on my hand. I took off my shirt and ripped it, creating a temporary bandage as I wrapped it and tied it around me. The pain was still there and there was blood seeping through my shirt, I put my sword back in my belt and walked quickly to the medical centre. I walked in and walked towards Doctor Carter's Office. I knocked on the door and Terra opened it.

Wait... Terra?

"Jake? What happened?" she seemed worried, she glanced down at my side and went into doctor Carter's office and I followed her in, she was searching through his desk and the boxes around the room. She wasn't supposed to do that. She wasn't even supposed to be in his office without him.

"I misjudged the robot's attack and it's sword slashed my side. I wasn't concentrating properly," she looked at me and I was certain I saw a flash of shock go over her blank expression, "where is doctor Carter or any of the other doctors? and what are you doing in here?"

"There's a prisoner who was suffering badly from post-altercation shock and depression and all the doctors were called down because he was being very unreasonable and violent. I had come down because I thought I had damaged my knee at some point in training but it's seems to be getting better so it might have just been strain, so when the doctors were called I was asked to stay just in case anyone came." She pulled out a box, finally and opened it, revealing all brand new medical equipment.

"You have medical experience?" she just nodded and untied my make-shift bandage, examining the cut.

"It's not too deep but I'm going to clean it to find out if it needs stitches or not." she grabbed antiseptic spray and tissue and wiped away the blood on my side, although more continued to flow out of the wound. She pressed the tissue against the cut to try and stop it from bleeding a bit, which caused me to hiss in pain, "sorry," she said and I just shrugged slightly. She then sprayed anti-septic spray on the cut, causing me to hiss in pain again. "Sorry," she apologised again.

"It's fine," she examined the cut.

"You're going to need stitches, she took out a needle and some thread type thing and cleaned the needle to make sure there was nothing that could cause infection and she stitched up my side. She then took a bandage and tightly tied it around me to make sure that it didn't keep bleeding, "that will heal in 2 weeks maximum. You can still fight but I want you to only have to fight when necessary, which, with a group like ours, it's likely it won't be necessary. You also need to make sure to come back everyday to get you're bandages changed and for doctor Carter to make sure that it's not getting infected." she knew what she was talking about and I was very impressed.

"Okay." she did a quick examination of me to make sure that I hadn't been hurt anywhere else and she gave me some tablets for the pain. As she did this, Doctor Carter walked in.

"Terra," he smiled at her, like he knew her and she returned the smile. It was a friendly smile. It was the first time I had seen her properly smile, "you'll never gue..." he stopped when he noticed me there, "Jake? What's happened?" he quickly kneeled in front of me beside Terra. I noticed how similar they looked except her expression was blank, while his was concerned and shocked.

"He wasn't concentrating while he was training and got hurt because of it," she said it slightly strained, I didn't understand why it was strained. It seemed like she was annoyed almost, "if that had been a real fight he'd be dead."

"I am here you know? And I'm well aware that in a real fight I'd be dead. Good thing it wasn't a real fight," I stated.

"Very true," she said, "but if you got distracted with nothing around you to be distracted by then what would happen on a battlefield when there's a lot more to be distracted by?" I nodded at the truth in her words. I couldn't help notice the concern in her voice that didn't match the blank expression that remained on her face.

"Jake," I looked at Doctor Carter as he spoke, "we all agree that you have to make sure that there is no distractions in training or fighting. Okay? Now would you mind if I made sure my... erm Terra has done it right," he smirked as she looked at him with fake annoyance. I saw a playfulness in her eyes that I had never seen before.

"Oh please. I can do just as good a job as you and I can swing a sword as well," she said.

"I..." He paused, "I..." he seemed to want to say something but kept glancing at me as if he couldn't say it in front of me. She smirked at him and I resisted the urge to laugh at them. They acted like 2 old friends. Like brother and sister and it was very funny to watch. Our group's best fighter and doctor acting like little kids and treating each other like brother and sister. They definitely knew each other before they came to this group. But again I didn't question it, afraid of them asking questions about my past as well. That was something no one ever needed to know, "shut up." he huffed and then said, "you can go now Jake."

"But you didn't check," I was confused.

"I don't need to, I just wanted to annoy Terra," he had a cheeky look in his eyes that made me laugh. They both acted like children. I rolled my eyes at them and stood up. Terra walked to the door and opened it for me, she looked more relaxed and she smiled at me. I smiled back and walked out. I heard Doctor Carter say,

"No fair, Terra! You knew I couldn't say anything! I can fight just as well as you and you know it!"

Wait. He could fight?

"Yeh that's exactly why I did it! And I can get you on the ground within minutes so..." I guessed she had stuck her tongue out at him. I should have left then but curiosity won and I stayed by the door, listening to their conversation.

"You're evil." he grumbled and I heard her laugh.

"Yep. That's me!"

"So how did your training go?"

"Too easy," she said, "I fought Jake once and that was too easy as well. I wish you could train with me. You're a challenge," he was a challenge?

"Do you like Jake?"

"I respect him. He's our general." I heard Doctor Carter laugh at that and it made me angry. Was he laughing at me?

"As if you've ever respected anyone Terra and I saw you're reaction when I asked. You blushed. You like him!" he shouted. What? She doesn't respect anyone? and she likes me? I had to admit that when he said that I felt a weird sense of happiness. I didn't understand it but I just ignored it. Relationships were a distraction.

"The first is true, the second, I. Don't. Like. Him. Relationships and liking and loving people is a distraction in war, they just cause you to get hurt," she argued, her voice then went sad, "you and I know that more than anyone."

"Yes we do," I heard such a sadness in his voice that I knew they'd both be crying. You could hear the wobble in their voices that showed they were crying. I left then, feeling guilty for eaves dropping and all I had gotten from all this is that Terra and Doctor Carter knew each other before they came here, during the time they knew each other something awful happened and it seems Doctor Carter can fight and I'm starting to let my curiosity get the better of me because I really wanted to know their past.
