She was a tough girl. An experienced fighter. She was one of the best. Like many of us she had her secrets. Like me as well. But none of us tried to find out each other's secrets for fear of having to tell our own. She was ruthless and cold, only talking when she had to. She never laughed or even smiled. She never cried. Her expression was always blank.
She joined our group in 3046. The war had been going on for over 20 years by then and she was 27; I was 29. We put her on a trial and discovered her amazing skills as a fighter but she fought similarly to the enemy, which made us put her under surveillance for a while. But she never did anything suspicious. She fought like she didn't care if she died but then blocked every attack with speed and precision. When she wasn't fighting she was training, in her room or in the medical centre. Again, no one knew and no one tried to ask why she paid frequent visits there. Another thing that was strange was how she always protected others. If any of us were having trouble with the enemy we were fighting then, without being asked, she would somehow manage to get over to us and help us. Even if she was in the middle of a fight herself. None of us ever saw how she did it because we were fighting but she managed it every time. We almost became reliant on her which was never good. But it was hard not to.
In a war it's every man/ woman for themselves. Yet somehow she still helped us. Her protection reminded me of something. Something that happened all those years ago. All the years ago before. Before. No I'm not thinking about that again.
Our group were always very close, unlike some of the other groups fighting. The enemy prayed to not have to fight us because we had never lost in the 5 years I've been a part of this group and the 15 years before that when I wasn't there. But we never killed on the battlefield either. There was a punishment for killing another, I should know. It was what we were trained to do, to not kill. We were low on fighters as it was, so all of the enemy would be taken prisoner and given the offer to join our group. If they refused they were left in prison to rot. If they agreed they would be allowed to join the group under full surveillance until they were trusted. That took a long time because if there's one thing that you learn in a war. Don't trust anyone. We trusted our group and that was it. We trusted her as well. Why? I don't know. Terra Carser was trusted though.
