"Darling get up, your father made breakfast!" My mom gently shakes me. I yawn, looking at my alarm clock. 6 minutes before it goes off. I roll my eyes, unplugging my alarm clock."Why did you wake me up before my alarm... again?" I sign to my mom. We speak in sign language. I'm not deaf. I'm mute. Talking is just something I've never been able to do. Therapists have tried, doctors have tried, my heart just won't allow me to speak.
"Just get down here." She says, turning on her heel and exiting my room. I get out of bed. Today is actually the first day of school. I regret not being a born a year before I was, because I want to graduate already. I hate going to school because I have no friends. At all. Usually someone would have one bestfriend. I don't have any.
I brush my teeth and brush my wavy hair into a messy bun. I insert my gauges into my ear. I don't want to do much, even though it's the first day of school, I don't care much about being flossy. I put on my dark denim thrifted high waist pants with my tan halter top. I don't bother putting on underwear or a bra. My boobs are small anyway. Plus, it's too hot for underwear.
I slip on my white superstar adidas. I spray on some perfume and fill in my eyebrows. I grab my backpack and walk downstairs. I see my mom and dad in the kitchen talking and laughing. I'm the only child.
And of course as soon as I walk in, the whole vibe changed. I always wished we were that family that talked and laughed but of course we all have to sign to each other only because of me.
I just wish life was different for me.
