The next morning, I trudged out of bed, got dressed and went to school. Niamh was there, waving me over. I sauntered past Skye, Fern, Megan and Anna and went to sit with Niamh.
"What do you have first?" She asked.
"Maths, you?"
"Me too!" She said and then I was swung around. Fern stood there, a knife in her hand. The knife had blood all over it and I looked to see Skye and Megan laying limp on the ground.
"Fern..."
"WHAT?" She screamed. Anna was crying.
"Why are you killing everyone... IN SCHOOL?" I asked.
"Because I'm going to prison anyway, and so are you, we might as well make the most of it.." she said, carelessly. Wide-eyed people watched as Fern plunged the knife into my heart and laughed as I picked it out and threw it on the ground. Sirens filled the air and people ran away. Some stayed and Anna fell onto the floor, crying some more.
"Why did you leave Anna alive?"
"Because Anna and you are my best, best friends. We've been through it all." She said, waving it away. Police cars pulled up and ambulances came next. I glared at Fern as she laughed, the police locking her up. They did the same to me, but my glare didn't leave Fern. I was pushed into the car and so was Fern. The sirens sounded again as we pulled out of the school. We drove on until we hit the prison. I glared at Fern throughout.
About three months later, I was in the cell for good. The cell door opened and I watched Fern be pushed in. She'd just finished her trail and she'd admitted to being guilty. We both had. I leaned back on the skimpy bed and she pushed herself up onto hers.
"Well," she said, "that was fun."
"Mine was too." I stated. She leaned down so I could see her. Her innocent brown hair had been shaven off and mine had too. I missed it. Her evil eyes twinkled and she grinned.
"I guess this is it then. We'll be in here for the rest of our lives." She said.
"Yup." But she was wrong. A year, in this cell, with Fern Sparklelight. The one girl who had killed my one true love. Beautiful.
