It was early morning on August 23, 2557. Beginning of fall had come and Jared was determined. He had trained and studied for hours on end every day, learning everything he could that would help him when he reached the house of the supreme ruler.
"What are you gonna do from here?" Joe asked. "I've got a plan and Im going to need your help if I'm going to go through with it." Jared replied as he walked out of the vault. "Yeah man, I'll help whats the plan?" Joe wondered. "I'm going up to the supreme ruler to grab a few things, if he doesn't agree, I'll have to kill him." Jared responded quietly. "Are you fucking crazy Jared?" "You can't kill the supreme ruler he's too heavily guarded!" Joe whispered in confusion. "I have no other choice Joe, its just gotta happen if its gotta happen, either way I'm erasing my families memory of me dying so I can have them back." "I'm not going to live without my wife and kids." Jared sadly replied.
He walked to his families house in the dead of night and stole the keys to his secret hover car under the shed in the back yard and he set out.
"Day 1, Its August 27, 2557. The car has enough fuel to get me to Kansas, then I'll have to walk from there. The weather is nice so far, but then again it is 0300 in the morning, weather is always nice this time of night."
Jared had called Joe to take a plane to Kansas and meet him there to take his part of the plan. Jared had reached Tallahassee about six hours later. There he found a stray dog laying out starving on the side of the skyway, he adopted it, bought some food and fed him. "Aaqil, that'll be your name."
Jared whispered lightly to the injured dog.
He rested at a hotel for the night. The next morning he woke up to loud banging on his door. Looking through the window he gasped lightly. "Fuck fuck fuck!" "Its the guards!" He said to himself. He crawled out the back window and walked around the building to his car.
"Sir, have you seen this man?" The guard held up a picture of Jared showing the man in the next apartment room over. The man pointed to jared and he rushed the dog into the car and flew off before the guards could see his face clearly. He drove to an alley way to sort everything out. "Wh- where's my notebook?" He had realized he left his notebook sitting on the coffee table at the hotel. "I have to go back." He told himself.
On his way back to the hotel guards sped through the sky towards other hotels. Passing right by him, he went as fast as he could rushing to the hotel. "Finally here, phew" he ran inside and the notebook was gone. "Where he hell did it go?" Jared yelled as he frantically searched the entire room.
"Dammit NO." "I CANNOT HAVE LOST THAT BOOK!" "I'm dead, fuck." He told himself in anger. A loud banging came from the door behind him, "Jared I know you're in there, come out with your hands in the air!" The guard yelled. "Are you alone?" Jared asked. "That's irrelevant Jared," "show yourself." The guard demanded as he banged on the door, progressively harder.
"Okay, just, hold on a second." Jared replied as he grabbed a knife from the kitchen and hid it in his sleeve. "Hurry up Jared!" The guard demandingly growled. Jared charged at the door breaking it down onto the guard. He ran past the guard while he was still under the door. "Stop right there Jared, I will not hesitate to shoot you!" He yelled in pain.
"Okay, you got me." Jared responded. The guard approached Jared taking out his cuffs. Jared pulled out the knife as the guard grabbed his arm to cuff him, and he stabbed the guard in the arm, the guard screamed in pain. "I didn't want to do this man, but you left me no choice!" Jared said in anger. The guard then pulled out his gun with his other hand and Jared stabbed him in the throat. "I'm sorry... dammit." Jared said with guilt as the guard choked on his own blood.
Jared pulled the knife out and ran towards the managers office to find his notebook sitting on the front desk. He grabbed it and ran out of the building, he saw another guard holding the body of the one he had killed moments earlier. He looked to his car and threw the knife at the guard. "Leave me alone dammit!" Jared screamed as the knife stuck into the guards left arm. He sprinted to his car and drove away as fast as possible.
Escaping just before a team of guards reached the hotel Jared was relieved. He felt guilty for what he did, as he had never killed a man before in his life. He cried himself to sleep that night as he held Aaqil close to him in the car.
"Day 2, August 28, 2557. I... I killed a man yesterday, I've never killed anyone before. It gave me such a rush of adrenaline. I threw the knife into another guards arm. I panicked I didn't know what else to do I can't go to jail."
The next morning he woke up and there were guards across the street looking around a store. He sat paralyzed for a minuet and started the car. He set out again on his way to Kansas city in Missouri. ETA 14 hours. He stopped to get some food from a nearby market. They hit the road again with enough food to last a few days, two weeks at most. The whole way he kept his eye on Aaqil making sure he was okay. He heard sirens and looked in his rear view mirror. The guards were right behind him. He sped up and they started shooting.
The back window had been busted by the bullets and jared sped up more and started turning behind buildings to avoid them. He ran out of fuel and took the dog and as much food as he could hold along with a shard of glass wrapped in cloth as not to cut himself.
He ran down an alley way and ran into a few more guards. They all pointed their guns at him, "Put your hands in the air, there's nowhere to run Jared, give it up." The guard in the front yelled as he approached Jared. Jared pulled out the shard of glass and stabbed the Guard in the eye and grabbed his gun. He used the guards body as a human shield as the guards opened fire. He waited until they started to reload their clips and he shot three of them down. "Three down two to go" jared whispered to himself as the adrenaline rushed through his body.
He grabbed the guards knife and threw it into another guards leg and he shot the guard next to him. Jared dropped the guards body as he approached the wounded guard. "Not as fun as you expected huh?" "Being a guard, hunting down criminals." Jared snarled as he kicked the guards wounded leg and snapped his neck.
The ride was long, and it was late at night they arrived in Kansas city. Still thinking about the men he killed. He woke up breathing heavily from a nightmare.
"Day 3, August 29 2557. I'm having nightmares about those guards. I killed seven men, and for what? To get my family back. I've gone this far. I can't turn back now."
Jared slept in a blanket he had brought in his pack. He held Aaqil close, and didn't let go the whole night, not even to roll over. Morning came and jared found himself in a dumpster and Aaqil was gone. He climbed out of the dumpster and saw Zach standing at the end of the alley way. "Zach?" "Wha- how are you alive? I watched you jump into the purification pit!" Jared yelled in excitement as he ran towards Zach. He tried to hug Zach but went straight through him. He had vanished in smoke.
Jared looked up to the sky crying. "Why?" "Why are you doing this to me?" he screamed in anguish. He saw Zach's face in the clouds and heard his voice. "Dad, you're crazy!" "Hey, he- watch the road dad, dad? Dad! Watch out!" He woke up almost screaming from a nightmare. "Oh my god, oh my god... Zach!" "I'm so sorry" Jared said to himself in anger and sorrow. He met up with Joe at a nearby park.
"Hey, Jared you look like shit, what happened?" Joe asked. "I... I'd rather not talk about it, its been a rough few days okay." Jared responded reassuring him. "What do you need me to do?" Joe questioned. "I- on my way here I found a dog, a stray-" Joe cut Jared off "A dog? Do you need me to take care of it?" "Yeah, that too," "but I need you to call my cousin Sean and tell him I'm coming to visit." Jared responded.
"Yeah, okay that's fine, if you need anything else you know how to contact me." Joe assured him. "Thanks man, it means a lot, considering my situation." "I might also need a ride." Jared pleaded. "Okay, here's $15,000 for a car." Joe responded. "Uh, no I don't think you understand, I can't buy a car, I can't buy anything but food." Jared responded worriedly.
They walked to a nearby car salesman and Joe bought a truck for Jared. "Thank you so much Joe, I don't know how I can ever repay you." Jared said. "You don't have to, brother." Joe responded as he hugged Jared and walked away.
