Jared watched as his best friend walk away. He jumped into the new truck Joe had just bought him and started to drive away, and found a store of military supplies, he grabbed night vision goggles, thermal goggles, some body armor, combat knives, and red spray paint.
He made it to a small town in Kentucky without television or any other ways of receiving news. He stayed for a bit, to rest, and meditate to clear his mind of the things he had done.
He stayed for a few days and made a few friends. A group of guards ventured through the small town warning everyone of Jared's crimes. One man pointed out where jared was staying and they swarmed around the small house. Under siege jared was no fool and knew exactly what to do. He dug a shallow hole in the ground and a friend buried him under and put a blanket over jared while the friend covered the blanket with dirt, hiding Jared.
The friend exited the house and was threatened by the guards "Where is Jared?" They questioned. "I- I don't know he left a few hours ago!" The man said as he put his hands in the air. The guards rushed into the house searching everywhere. Jared had braced himself as he knew they would storm the house and some might step on where he was laying.
"He's not in here, the guys telling the truth." "Which way did he go?" The guards asked. "H- he went north," "he said he's headed for New York." The man whimpered as the guards held him. The guards left the town and the man dug the dirt off of Jared's blanket. He was gone, the man wondered outside and Jared was driving away.
Speeding down the dirt road Jared wasn't surprised the guards were searching across the few states he could have gone to. On his way to his cousins house he thought about the seven men he killed.
"Day 7, September 2, 2557. I can't stop thinking about what I did to those men. Nightmares, not only about them but about Zach too. I'm afraid to go to sleep, afraid I'll see them again, but I'm afraid to wake up, I might kill again."
Jared forced himself to wake up the next morning. He had slept in the truck, and his back was hurting. In pain he started the truck and started driving again. He arrived in another small town, they had television and radios. A man recognized him and called the guard force to come quickly.
Jared was walking to the food store because he had lost most of his food in his hover car when he left it behind to escape the guards. He walked into the store and bought a few bags of food. On his way out he saw guard trucks driving slowly through the town. He pulled out the knife he had taken from a guard in the alley way and hid it in his sleeve. Opening the door he hid his face and walked to his truck.
A guard recognized him and started walking towards Jared. Jared noticed and changed his path to the back of the store. The guard followed him, "Sir, stop where you are." The guard demanded calmly. "You should know what happens to guards when they corner me." Jared replied. The guard looked at Jared's hand and saw the knife, he pulled out his pistol and jared threw the knife, stabbing the guard in the throat.
He walked over to the guard and took his guns. The pistol, and the automatic rifle. He covered them with his coat and walked back to his truck. He got in the truck immediately and headed towards Sean's house. Guards trailing him he pulled into a parking garage and parked on the top floor. He hid in the stairwell and waited for the guards to arrive. Footsteps echoed in the well as guards marched up the stairs.
"We have to find this man he is too dangerous to be a part of society." a guard muttered as he turned a corner. "You're right, I am too dangerous." The guards stopped and looked around as they heard Jared speak. And out of nowhere Jared lunged out from the other side of the wall in between the stairs and stabbed the guard in the kidney. He then pulled out his pistol and shot the other four guards.
Jared ran out of the stairwell after taking the ammunition from the guards he had killed. He got in his truck and drove out of the parking garage, running down any guard in his sight. "Fuck." Jared growled as he saw a team of guards blocking each end of the town. He drove through the store across the street out into the desert behind it.
One of the guard trucks followed him into a sand storm. Jared got out of his truck and got ready. He put on his thermal goggles to see the guards through the sand, grabbed his combat knife and took them out one by one. He got into their vehicle and took an extra guard outfit.
Jared got into his truck and drove until he found an abandoned house with a garage, he parked the truck in the garage and closed the door, spray painted the guard outfit red and put it on when it dried a few hours later. It was lightweight armor, enough to protect from gunshots to the chest and abdomen, but not much for the neck, and other joints.
He stayed in the house for a few days before moving on to his cousins house. Night came fast, and the storms in Kansas got more harsh as the days went by. It felt like the whole world was coming down in his mind.
Day 9 September 3, 2557. "I killed so many guards yesterday and I think I'm starting to get used to it, I just hope it doesn't become a habit, I don't want to kill people for fun. Off of that subject I've made it to Sean's house and I'm staying here for seven days, no more, no less than that.
The next morning Jared woke up early at 6:32. Nervous about how Sean is going to react to the fact Jared had killed so many national guards, he tried his best not to let his cousin find out. "Well aren't you up early!" exclaimed Sean's wife, "I made pancakes for everyone, they've got banana slices on them too." she said, "My name is Maria. Sean has told me so much about you!" Maria said in excitement. "Thanks for breakfast ma'am." Jared replied, "What kind of things had Sean told you about me?" Jared wondered. "He's told me about your childhood with each other mostly and it sounds fun." She exclaimed and giggled a bit.
"Good morning honey, the pancakes smell delicious!" Sean said as he walked into the kitchen. *BANG* The front door had been kicked down and a squad of guards rushed in. Jared ran to the guest room he was staying in and put on the armor and grabbed the guns and all his other equipment. "If any of you guards fire off one shot I will kill all of you!" Jared exclaimed angrily. Maria screamed and Jared heard a gun shot. Then another.
Rushing down the stairs he saw Sean and Maria standing behind the guards. "I'm sorry Jared, there was nothing else I could do." Sean calmy stated. "You? You, brought them here?" Jared replied in sorrow. A guard yelled and started shooting. Jared returned fire and ran out the back to his truck and drove away, heading north.
He found a place to stay in an old bomb shelter, there was still plenty of water and food there and he explored it for about ten minuets before he came along a room. Inside the room was heavy guard armor and munitions. An armory, he grabbed everything he could and found a garage with an armored vehicle. Packed all of his equipment and put on the heavy armor.
He started heading towards Colorado. The days grew colder and Jared no longer felt guilty for the things he had done. He felt the whole world falling down on him but he never let it slow him down.
Day 14 September 8, 2557 it's getting cold outside, but the armor I grabbed and the truck keep me warm, I was surprised to have found something like this in the middle of nowhere. I just need to get through this bullshit. I need my family back.
Driving through town he sees that all the schools have been locked down tight with guards swarming the state, checkpoints required identification to pass. He stopped at a gate and a guard approached the truck and Jared opened the door in the roof where the mounted gun was. "What is your business here?" The guard questioned nervously. "I just need to pass through." Jared replied
"I need to see some ID, there's a psycho running around here." The guard remarked. Jared Immediately opened fire and shot all guards in sight before driving through the gate and ramming the armored vehicle to the side of the gate. Exploring the vehicle he found another weapon. "It's the G-48 hikr, how did the militia get their hands on this shotgun?" Jared exclaimed. He took shelter in the school the checkpoint was blocking off and found more food and water.
