*On the way to Cali*
Maya POV
"Cam?" I said halfway through the ride
"Yas" He replied
"Why didn't I ever see your parents when I would go to you for help all those times? I only saw you and who I'm guessing was your sister" I asked
"Oh.. Uh.. My parents left us when I was 6 and Sierra was 11. They divorced and didn't wanna take care of either of us so they left us at home. They each gave us both $50 to survive and pay bills and such. You can't pay very many bills with $200, so we only used that for bills and ate the uneaten food out of the pantry and fridge until we could find a job or at least somewhere to volunteer and hopefully get a few bucks off of it if we told them the truth. Luckily one day I got a call to join Magcon and that I would get a bunch of money for doing meet and greets and stuff."
He explained
"Why wouldn't they just put you in an orphanage?" I asked hoping I wasn't sounding too pushy
"Because they thought a 6 and 11 year old could survive on $200 and that they could take care of themselves and each other"
"Oh. I'm sorry to hear that" I said
"It's fine I mean it wasn't all that bad. I mean we had some fun times together"
"Well that's good at least it wasn't as bad as living in a cardboard box" I said
"Yeah" He replied
The ride was silent for a while after that...
