It was 8 pm and already dark outside. Ted parks the car a few car lengths down from Matthew's place it was early, but there were a lot of cars parked and a lot of people exiting them as they were going into the house. I was shaking seeing people I knew from school, whether it was from class, middle school, or some of my friends look like they are going to have the time of their lives will probably be consumed in the fiery inferno. For the firs time sine the library, Nancy smiled at me only with a little evil in her eyes this time. She gave me the water bottle and a lighter and said,
"You know what to do. And remember, if you run out on us," she said, then she used her fingers and an imaginary gun against my forehead then made an imaginary gun shot sound with her mouth.
"Good luck," Ted said, as if I was going to play in a football game.
I got out of the car and started to walk but the first thing that came to mind was running away, but I looked back and saw Ted with an small but deadly AR-15 pointed at me ready to shoot me at a moments notice so I walked towards the house now in an almost robotic manner with the water bottle in my stiff hand. I began to hear the loud music and I saw a group of girls I knew calling my name and giggling and I waved back feeling guilty and nervous for them. I was already at the front door, seeing a lot of people mingling, drinking, and not knowing their fate.
I started to pour some of the fluid on the front border of the house while looking at the party goers and when they started to look at me I smiled while making it seem like an accident. They gave me confused stares as I walked past them and now 'accidentally' started to pour more on the border of the rest of the house. I was relieved of looking like a freak when I went to the left side of the house and poured as much as I could on the other side. As I was reaching the edge I could only think,
"I could do it. I've been on the football team since forever. I can outrun them, but I know I can't outrun a bullet from a trained marksman." Stick to the plan, there was less than half of the fluid left in the bottle so I had to walk across the other side of the house but as I walked i front of the door I heard a fuzzy voice.
"Jimmy Jam!" Without looking I knew it was Matthew. He was the only person that called me that. I approached him and saw he was smiling under his long brown hair with his mouth wide open, walking in a dizzy pattern. He hugged me tighter than I did and whispered in my ear,
"I've missed you," I pushed him off feeling crept out and asked,
"Hey, have you been drinking?" Even though I knew the answer to that he laughed at me and smiled. "Yeah, half of the people here are drunk. Let's go inside."
Before I knew it, he was dragging me inside, leaving the door open and I was hoping to not hear a bullet go off. Upon arriving, I saw people laughing, making out and yelling over the loud music that made the ground shake a little, but it was nothing compared to the bones shaking in my body. Matthew was trying to yell over the music, but all I heard was, "I see you already have a water bottle filled with beer. More? You're barley drunk."
"Um. I guess," I replied, since I need a drink after what I went through today. He went into the overflown kitchen and poured me some beer into a red solo cup. I sipped a little, but disliked the taste and I was already doing something illegal so I pretended to drink it. I gave a nervous fake smile that Matthew saw right through.
"Aw, what's wrong Jimmy Jam? You not havin' fun?" I looked right into his eyes and whispered in a hiss, "Call 911 there is a crazy couple that kidnapped me and is gonna make me set this place on fire. I'm being held captive by them and they want me to kill you." Matthew looked into my eyes in confusion and then did the worst thing possible; laughed. He laughed as if I were a comedian until he was literally rolling on the floor laughing. He got beer on himself in the process which made him laugh even harder.
"Jimmy Jam we can't call 911 we got beer and this party is is is... just have a drink." I was screwed since nobody would call the police. Too much underage drinking, loud music, vandalism, maybe but I had no choice. As i was leaving I poured what was left of the beer on the ground leaving a trail at the door, I went outside and poured what was left of the lighter fluid and hope on the last side of his house and then I grabbed the match from my pocket, took a deep breath, asked god for forgiveness despite having no religion, apologized to Matthew even though he couldn't hear me and lit the fluid on fire and quickly but casually walked away. I raced walked at a hopefully not noticeable speed.
"FIRE!" That was my queue to run away along with the other people. I got to a safe distance I only, but turned and froze as I saw a side of the house becoming a wall of fire as I imagined it made its way into the house and I saw the front set ablaze as well as the other side due to the link by the lighter fluid. The people in there having fun were screaming loud enough for the neighborhood could hear it, running out of the house for their lives, and as some made it others were being trampled by tripping under a group of scared teenagers. Some had their clothes set on fire, many were checking their bodies for any traces of ember on them, and they're now friends tried to pat out fire on their friends' clothing in desperation. Even one kid was screaming and crying on the grass beating the ground not caring who sees him and I could only imagine the chaos inside of the house. Ashamed of myself, I ran in until I got into the car. As soon I made it into the back seat the screams of horror and fear were replaced with sadistic laughter from the 'victory' from their plan. I was confused, but not surprised to see them high five.
"Good job boy! Now lets watch the rest of the show shall we." They stayed parked as I saw the inferno grow and more people ran and cried. I couldn't watch I only felt remorse, sadness, and hatred eating me all at once not sure what to do. I curled into a ball and silently cried into my hands like a child thinking of my friends and now even if I survive, many won't and I'll always be a murderer. I cried the hardest I ever had in my life until I heard sirens approaching the house. Ted then hit the gas and the last thing I managed to catch was Matthew transformed into a ball of fire on the front lawn of his own house.
