Thinking nothing of it

Sometimes I really 't know what Carmen sees in that boy.

He can be such a...such a brute.

A stupid, ignorant brute.

Lets start at the begining. No, lets not; too many ponsey and petty arguments and tears. Lets start a quarter of the way in. No, two eighths.

It all started (two eighths into this day) when Niall was being his usual self; sleepy, arrogant, testosteroned up. He'd just cracked an imature joke about Carmen being so worried about what her mum will say on her B- in her maths, and how her life will be over and how everything had been leading upto this moment and how this one (stupid and really un-important) maths test would be the tipping point for her getting into college and... . Yeah, she was getting worked up over nothing. But she was having a stressful time at home recently, what with her more heavy responsibilities at home now, as her mum has this new amazing job with double the pay but triple the hours, and how she had all this extra coursework that she recieved from all thiese amazing universities that she is sure to get into but she keeps telling herself she's not good enough. But she'll get there. Everyone knows she will except her.

The only thing remotely calm and stable in her life currently is her relationship with Niall. The usually contrary baboon like characteristics have seemed to been knocked out of him. Maybe they've been numbed by Madame's breath, or just knocked out by the horrific fumes of testosterone. Whatever way, he was being a generally decent boyfriend for once. And about time too.

Carmen and Niall have been through alot. I mean, alot. ALOT. But she begs me not to dwell on that, and she hopes that even though her and Niall have been on and off more times than a kettle in an old folks home, she doesn't want me to judge, or think badly of her.

So. Lets not dwell.

Anyway, back to the other six eighths of the day. I saw Carmen's offended but not showing it face as everyone was laughing at Niall 'hilarious' joke, so i sent him one of my death stares to give hime the message to tone it down. He was seduced and continued the conversation with a warm and sentementle jesture.

'Listen babe, I know you want to get into a good school, and everyone knows you will. Whats one little maths test compared to sixteen years of brilliant essays, amazing diagrams and completely non-understanding algebra equations! Come on, why don't you come round to mine after school and then we can tell your mum together.' He wrapped his arm around her and kissed her forhead.

If that was me I would personally find that a little imtimidating and underminig but i guess Carmen liked it.

She reply slowly, after a quick embrace of Niall.

'Well, i don't exactly remember doing algebra in reception, but i supose you'r right; i mean it was only a mock paper right, and summer's coming up so i can get my extra revision in the bag then!' She looked pleased with herself, as she had a plan. She liked having plans.

'Actually, I did have other plans that i was planning on running by you for the summer.' He had a strange smike on his face.

She retaliated the smirk, with its same amount of strangeness. 'Really, what sort of plan??'

This was cringe-worthingly painful.

Niall looked in my direction. 'I'll tell you later.'

I hated it when he did that. Like i was just an inconvienience or something. Me and Carmen had been best friends for nearly all of seven years now. Granted, Carmen had always been aquainted with Niall, but it was always me who told her to keep focus and keep away.

Yes he had history with me. He had history with everyone, but that doesn't mean that he should treat me different to anyone else.

He started to pull Carmen's arm that was tighly limked with his own away towards the common room.

I'll think nothing of it.
