I just came back from my first mission trip, which was with The Pittsburgh Project. With that organization, we were put into groups and sent out into neighborhoods across and near Pittsburgh that had applied for help.
Just a bit of back story, this year was my first year at this church. I don't technically go to that church; it was my friend's youth group, and I went there since the one at my church was unwelcoming. I am also super shy, which meant that I never made friends, and I did not feel part of the church.
Throughout the week, not only did I make a few friends, I also saw firsthand how a group of two middle schoolers, three high schoolers, and one adult can change someone's life.
I loved being there and helping out. It is amazing how powerful mission trips can be--even if you only traveled twenty minutes. I feel so much closer to God.
If you ever get a chance to go, try your best no matter how much it costs. God will provide a way for you to go if He wants you there.
