Purity/Promise Rings

I just read an article on Purity/Promise rings, which are worn by teenagers and young adults as a sign that they are going to remain pure until marriage. The article was basically making fun of and undermining these rings. I understand pointing out that some companies persuaded celebrities like the Jonas brothers and Miley Cyrus to wear them even though they admitted to breaking it, but to use that information as a way to not only imply that all teens will break it but to also suggest that there is nothing wrong with premarital sex and instead adults are unfairly pushing kids to feel obligated to stay pure. This greatly unsettled me. I even know a friend of mine right now who wears a ring honestly and purely, not because she was forced or coerced as the article suggest, but because she wants to follow God's words. (Another small detail that the article did was that they didn't even have the respect to capitalize God's name.) The article also said that God hates premarital sex. I completely agree that God does not like it, but the way it was worded in the article suggested that God also would be condemning those who indulged when instead He would not love them any less. He may not agree with their actions, but to think He would shun them because of their sin is unrealistic and ignorant.
Also, the same company (or whatever you call it) that published that article had many others supporting non-monogamous relationships. Whether or not they realize it, they are getting the idea into teens' minds that these types of things are okay when God has a different opinion. Some teens may not know where their thoughts on the matters lie, and they may found out God's different opinion when it's too late.
Please be aware that these are my interpretations of the article, and they could easily be incorrect compared to what the article was actually trying to convey. I also am probably ranting more than I should be. It just frustrates me how this country often promotes disobeying simple rules and principles that have been in place for many generations.
