She was plain ordinary, well sort of. Miranda Brown had an ordinary life for the most part, but she wasn't ordinary.  Everyone thought that she was the cool white girl with the cool artistic expression. All the boys at Laurens High School wanted her but she was too blind to see that anyone wanted her. She was pretty, no she was gorgeous, she had long pretty curly brown hair, gorgeous hazel eyes hidden behind horned rimmed nerd glasses. She wasn't very tall or very short she was average with a banging body how guys would put it. She had hips and thighs and booty for days.  She was the finest girl in school and yet she was single. No one knew of her past or why she was single but there was a reason. Her most recent boyfriend Jay Jones had left her broken and scarred. The boy played her heart like a fiddle and then blamed her for their problems. It didn't help that he was always on and off with her and as soon as she started talking to someone else he'd some how weasel himself back into her life. After months of heart ache and pain she was done with Jay and his bullshit.

But this year was gonna be different, she made up her mind up about Jay and made the decision she didn't need him or any man for that matter even though she was only like seventeen. It was the first day of school unfortunately. She was geared up in a black tank top with a batman baseball jersey over it, she wore her black leather joggers and her Jordan's, and she couldn't forget the gold chain around her neck. She dressed like a boy but that was how she liked it. She always made sure that her makeup was perfect and that her hair was on point. She wasn't like all the other girls at her school she was Miranda she was her own original. When she was ready for school she walked out of her room into the kitchen to get something to eat before she left for school. She looked up to see her mom making a face at her. "What?" She asked her mom. "I wish you wouldn't dress like a black boy, Miranda. You're such a pretty girl, you need to dress like one." Miranda rolled her eyes at her mom. She wished she didn't have to bitch about everything she did. "It's not like you paid for it, mom. And I don't want to dress like all those basic preppy little females that parade around the school like they own the place. Can't you for once let me be who I want to be and not who you wish I would be."

Her mom let out a sigh, "Maybe you could get a boyfriend if you dressed better." Miranda rolled her eyes at her mother. "That's not the reason I don't have a boyfriend, the reason is they're a bunch of fuckboys and I don't have time for that." Before her mom couldn't say anything else Miranda said, "I have to get to school I'll see you after work. Bye, I love you." Then she bounced. She went straight to the bus stop to wait on her bus. Right when she had gotten there the bus was pulling up. She hopped in giving dap to the bus driver Mr. Wayne. She sat in the back next to her best friend Quon McDaniel. He was a tall lanky black kid with dreads. He was kinda goofy looking but in a cute way. "Wus good?" He said to her as they did their secret handshake. "Mom's tripping on me again, man, cause I quote unquote dress like a black boy." Quon laughed at her because he knew that her mom was right. "You know Mrs. B is right, you do kinda dress like a niggah." Miranda rolled her eyes at him.

"I don't need to hear it from you too. Damn what do I look like?" Quon laughed at her. "A white girl trying to be a black boy." "Boy you better stop with that gay shit." He wrapped his arm around her hugging her. "You know I was just playing." She rolled her eyes at him, "Yeah, whatever." "Are you mad cause you and Jay keep having problems?" She gave him a look that would have probably killed him if looks could kill. "We've been done, I don't want nothing from him. And I ain't mad because of that I'm just mad cause of my mom, you got that." Quon nodded his head at her. "I hear you ma." The bus had stopped and it was time for everyone to be getting off. Miranda and Quon walked in together like they had done since grade school. Miranda looked at Quon and said, "You ready?" "Nope, but I probably won't ever be ready, so let's just get this over with." She nodded at him as she held onto his arm. They walked into commons which was where everyone had to be until the bell rang for class. They sat at their normal table waiting for their first day to begin. Just as they had sat down Jay walked up to them. Miranda cut her eyes at him. "Can I help you?" She said with venom in her voice." "Come on baby don't be like that. I'm sorry I want us to work out. I love you baby, please."
