It was almost noon by the time Dr. Ralph had brought David into his office for a discussion on Marcus' condition, treatment and the possibility of Comadylic. David sat nervously in a chair facing a dark red oak wooden desk. The desk had a monitor and tower; as well as a laptop taking up part of the space that was littered with papers and files of all sorts. The only open one though, was that of Marcus. Marcus' file was rather decent in size and Dr. Ralph paged through it slowly.
What Kayden didn't know was that David had been working on the side with Dr. Ralph to try and bring Marcus out of the coma. Clearing his throat David shifted in the uncomfortable and unreasonably cold leather chair he sat in. The noise David created broke the silence and caused the mocha colored eyes of Dr. Ralph to trail up to meet Davids. "Marcus is not getting any better. We have tried everything we can and I do not see him pulling out of this any time soon, if he ever does. That being said..." Dr. Ralph paused to allow David some time to process.
Dr. Ralph began again. "Your friend has been through a series of trials. For furthing my own research on coma patients and for bringing him back. We tried your music method and my electroshock therapy theory.." David tensed at the mention of electroshock therapy. Dr. Ralph had said that since electroshock therapy helped individuals in the past with schizophrenia in turn it could theoretically help activate the brainwaves that had caused the coma in Marcus. David didn't know much about any of that stuff and sometimes wondered if he had blind trust in Dr. Ralph.
He remembered being there in the middle of the night pulling a switch on a big mechanical box that brought electricity through to a small weird headband onto Marcus. It left small burn like wounds on the comstosed males forehead and when the electricity ran through him his body jerked. A shiver slid through the blond male. He had stayed up days after wondering if Dr. Ralph was one of those doctors who carved his initials into patients during surgery. He wondered if the man was just insane and dangerous. Yet, he had to trust. Trust in Dr. Ralph.
"About Comadylic. It takes up to 48 hours to know if it is going to work or not. The negative effects shown in the lab; was that it could cause anaphylaxis, total organ failure, seizures and or unexplained jerking. The up side is that if Marcus, being our first human subject can get through 48 hours with increased brain activity he could be pulled out of it. Proving that Comadylic works." Dr. Ralph explained his stern expression unwavering in it's meet with Davids concerned blue grey eyes. With slow nods David lifted a hand to run his fingers through his short, yet messy hair. David couldn't call off work tonight but he was determined to get Marcus his treatment that could potentially bring him back. That was all David could think about. "Let's do it.."
It took a few hours after David signed forms and wavers to prepare the Comadylic to a safe dosage in humans. Well, as safe as they could assume scientifically given Marcus was the first human recipient. David sat by his boyfriends bedside speaking in a low tone about how much he loves Marcus and needs him to stay with him. To wake up. To hold him. Leaning over to run his fingers through Marcus' hair, David leaned over to place a gentle peck on his lips. "The nurse is coming, Marcus. I'm nervous..." A tray with one syringe wrapped in plastic and a vial where cotton candy blue liquid waa contained.
The nurse that had entered the room had made her way towards the IV drip to administer the first dose of Comadylic. David had moved back to allow the nurse to do her job. His attention stayed upon the syringe and how the nurse gingerly unwrapped it with her blue gloves on. She allowed the needle to puncture into the vial before drawing out a healthy amount of the liquid before pushing it through the IV itself. David had to admit.
There truly was something poetic about watching with worried anticipation of the bright blue medicine slide through the translucent tube and into Marcus. After thanking the departing nurse David leaned down to whisper his good bye for the night and a hasty return. With that he took his leave to head out to work. His mind was buzzing with new hope and obvious concerns.
