LIFTING UP ONTO THE top of my toes, I circled my arms out in front of me to deliver a well needed breath. In the midst of glancing at my reflection of soft toned legs with a pearl color of white contrasting it against it, I caught the eye of my instructor. Eyes darker than the night sky she scowls, creating an unsettling rumble in the pits of my stomach as with little effort I lift my slender leg well above my head.
"Ah," she exclaimed, disgusted. "Again!"
Dropping my levitating leg from the air, I released a tumble of air from my red stained lips before returning back to the proper first starting position. It seemed not only were my interest diminished nearing the end of the session, but also the interest of the little girls waiting along the sides.
"Sade," Kendra aspirated a frustrated sigh from the cracked lips upon her face once I redid the pose. "You're posture is sloppy, again!"
The Bassett Dance Academy Studios is where I currently resided, overworking my muscles until the soreness began to settle in at uncomfortable heights. Even though I issued a complaint to Kendra — the dance instructor — she advised me to dance through the pain until my muscles became so numb that I wouldn't feel a dull of ache.
Not only five hours into renditioning the routine, I was able to experience the lack of feeling in my loins. Nonetheless Kendra went without knowing of the feeling I had lost from the waist down after I decided not to entertain the complaint any longer.
"Better." Kendra settled on complimenting the instant I ran through the routine and nearly dropped to the floor in exhaustion.
Getting to my feet, I downed the bottle of water I had left near the benches. "What is this all for, you've been working me extra harder for last couple of weeks." I say after taking a seat on the wooden floor to stretch.
Kendra usually was a hound dog when it came to perfecting the art of ballet but she never took it to the extreme of forcing me to dance through the pain. Mostly, she would call for a break and we'd come back too it, but breaks became limited over the course of two weeks.
"Ladies give us a moment alone, will you." Kendra demanded from the students waiting for their lessons against the wall. With poise, they jumped out of their positions and scurried out of the room.
"D'you remember that audition tape you sent in. You know, the one to Paris?" In response, I nod my head while bending my body across my legs to release the tension in them. "They asked for another one. Either you turn it in by tomorrow or you're," she makes a cutting motion across her neck. "out."
