Otto busted into the doctor's office. His suit was messy and his hair was barely combed. Dr. O turned to look straight at him. She said only one thing: "Good news."

Otto almost cried out of joy. "What is it?" he squeaked.

"The arrow didn't penetrate any of Olive's major or minor organs. The arrow didn't impact the rib, so I stitched up the wound and put some bandaging on there. She's a lucky girl."

Otto laughed. "I'm lucky to have her."

He looked to his right. Olive blinked at him in acknowledgment.

"She shouldn't do an extreme amount of exercise and movement in the wound area, but she should be fine with her regular amount. Take it easy when she's not solving cases and such."

Olive got up from the table and turned to look at Otto again. He stepped forward and grabbed her hand.

He had never had any other partner. He hoped he would never have another one. Olive was the only partner he ever wanted.

She had given all her life, and all life did was take. She had missed Todd for a little while, but her feelings, good or bad, ebbed and flowed like the tide. In truth, Otto was her only partner.

In the moment, with each other, they began to think about the future.

Otto assumed they would each become sixteen and in turn have to leave the squad. Maybe they'd stay in touch. Maybe he'd lose her forever. He hoped for the former.

Olive wished for the best. Perhaps she'd get promoted, perhaps she wouldn't and Otto would. The sky was the limit for her; she'd never give up.
..
They thought their dreams were ridiculous. They thought it'd happen a different way. Little did they know, Olive was right.
