Chapter Four- What He Dreams

He is alone.
He is walking into Odd Squad headquarters after solving a case. He keeps feeling a warm presence beside him, then he turns and nobody is there. He keeps wishing someone would say to him, "Nice job, partner!" or at the very least a welcome. The very odd thing is that there is not even so much as a whisper. It is quiet.
Too quiet.

He has lost someone important to him. He is mourning; he is staying vigil tonight.
The scientist sits down with him but says not a word. He looks down painfully.
The doctor steps out of her office. She is not smiling, but nor is she frowning- she keeps on her usual expression. She sits down with the two.

He has lost track of how long they have been sitting there. The scientist's arm has somehow migrated behind him; the doctor's hand has moved to be in his. He hears the door creak open. He does not bother at first to look at the newcomer.

All of a sudden, there's a pain in your heart.

The agent walks out in front of him. He looks up and smiles the biggest smile.

You should have read carefully-

He grabs her hand happily and wishes he could feel this way forever. His senses leave him as his eyes open to his bed.
