Without really knowing why, Daenerys felt her hands rest on Loki's arms, soflty gripping the fabric of his tunic. She tried to look at Viserys, scared that her brother was watching from afar, keeping the worst of punishment for later. But Loki stopped her, putting a hand on her chin, forcing to keep her gaze right in front of her.
-Don't look at him. he said in a whisper.
-Is he here? She asked, looking straight ahead, at Loki's well defined collarbone.
She lifted her head, trying to catch a reaction from the raven haired man and she noticed his eyes, slighty directed to his left.
-I can't see him...
Even he seemed surprised and Daenerys felt a smile pull at her lips, still without knowing why. All she knew was that whenever she was with Loki, he made her feels things she couldn't describe or understand.
-Maybe he figured we wouldn't be doing eccentricities in the bushes. he said with a smirk.
Daenerys let out a chuckle, her head almost touching his chest as she did so. The taller man suddenly stepped back, a frown on his face.
-We should probably head back to the castle.
Daenerys nodded and as they started to walk back, the young woman couldn't help but think about the coldness coming from Loki. Not just his distant demeanour but... him. His cold hands, breath and his entire person. What happened to him? She thought. But when she saw him already looking at her in the corner of her eye, she suddenly felt like he could read her thoughts and tried to think about something else.
-Why did your father decide to marry his eldest to Sansa Stark? she asked instinctively.
Loki seemed a bit startled at first by her question but answered anyway.
-Why wouldn't he choose you, you mean? If you prefered my brother, I'd entirely understand but...
-I don't! I don't, really. Daenerys urged.
And somehow, she meant it. The few times she had the occasion to have a discussion with Thor, it was all about sports and war and fights. Of course, Thor was nice to her, even if sometimes he seemed a bit too authoritarian with women. On the other hand, Loki, he may have been distant but he was calm and obviously, he liked books. And the way he defied his father many times over, Daenerys couldn't help but admire that, wishing she'd have that strengh to stand up to her brother.
-I steel wonder where my brother went. He's not the kind to just leave me alone with a man, just to give me privacy. Daenerys said soflty.
-He's... being protective.
-We both know that's not true. the princess snapped back.
Loki stared at her for a moment, his icy eyes almost begging her to continue. And she did.
-He's vicious and cruel, and he'll never be the king Westeros needs. He'll just do the best choices there are for him to sit on the throne until his death. He's... a cockroach, sucking the life out of people around him. Forcing his sister to marry someone she never met, a man with quite the reputation! He doesn't even care about his family.
Saying those things out loud felt strange for Daenerys. Some kind of relief took over her brain but an aching pain wrapped itself around her heart, finally facing the facts. Her brother was a monster.
But when she turned around to look at Loki, she quickly realized what she had just said. But it was too late now to take it back.
-Daenerys if you don't want to m-
-No, I... I... I'm sorry I-
-If you don't want to marry me, I would never force you to anything. But what I cannot do, is go against you brother, the king's will.
The calmness in his voice sent shivers through Daenerys's spine and she couldn't help the wave of regret overcome her body. She suddenly couldn't fin her voice, unable to find something to say. An apology, an explaination, nothing. When she looked up to her fiancé's face, the hurt in his eyes almost froze her heart.
-We should head back to the castle. he spoke again, more harshly this time.
Daenerys just nodded, looking at the ground as they started to make their way back to the castle. After walking in an uncomfortable silence, giggles came to the silver haired woman's ears. And the dark lord probably heard them too, taking Daenerys's hand to drag her behind hedges. They stayed quiet, carefully listening to the people in the garden.
-I already told you, if you want me to stay away, you shouldn't wear dresses like this one!
Daenerys easily recongnised her brother's sick chuckle, but an agonizing curiosity made her take a look at him and the person he was speaking to, desperatly trying to see who was the lady with him.
Her breath caught in her throat when she saw flaming, slick hair and a pair of light blue eyes staring in awe at Viserys. She quickly hid back behind the hedge, feeling her heart pound against her chest.
-Who is it? Loki asked an eyebrow raised.
-You're brother's fiancée. Sansa Stark. she whispered.
