CHAPTER SIX: BREAKFAST WITH ALBINOS

───── ⋆★⋆ ─────

"Harry!" said the voice of an excited young boy.

"Oh, here we go again..." muttered another, more exasperated voice.

"Look what I've got here — it's the picture of you and Professor Lockhart!" Maya turned to see a first-year Gryffindor that she had seen bouncing around the common room. He had mousy blond hair and was rather small (well, he was a first year after all) and was clutching a black box which she remembered the Muggles called a 'camera'.

"Oh, uh — that's nice, Colin."

"I've told him multiple times to burn that picture," said the other boy, who had dark skin and closely cropped curly hair. He sounded vaguely familiar to Maya. "He gives me the creeps."

"They're not for you, Adan," retorted Colin, "They're for my dad! By the way, where are you going, Harry?"

"Um — Quidditch Practice," said Harry, walking faster now that his personal fanboy had arrived. Maya suspected Harry didn't particularly like him. Perhaps it was his naïve fascination at everything, especially in relation to Harry, she mused.

"Oh, wow! I've never seen a Quidditch game before! Wait for me!"

Maya smiled at his eagnerness to be with Harry, but then  had to resist the urge to laugh when she saw the look on Harry's face. He looked somewhat constipated.

"It'll be really boring, Colin," said Harry quickly, but Colin ignored him as he suddenly turned his attention towards Maya.

"Aren't you the girl who was sorted with us? You sound pretty famous, can I take a picture of you?" he smiled, holding up his camera. Adan face-palmed beside him.

"Uh. No?"

Colin didn't seem to take it personally and instead began asking question after question about Quidditch. Maya found herself zoning out when he began talking (in her defence, he's about as exciting as Professor Binns), and almost jumped out of her skin when Adan spoke up beside her.

"You'll have to excuse Colin," said Adan, shoving his hands into his pockets. "He's Muggle-born so he gets really excited about the idea of showing his dad stuff about the Wizarding World."

Maya quirked her lips into a small smile. "Even if it means waking up at ungodly hours?"

"Especially if it's at ungodly hours," he replied seriously. "He made me help him sneak into the Slytherin common room once to take pictures of the mermaids and the Giant Squid — and then I had to stop him from going into one of the seventh year dorms because he wanted to "know what the other house's dorms were like"." He shook his head with an exasperated fondness, and Maya couldn't help but laugh when he screwed up his face and grumbled, "God, it was so awkward trying to explain why I was in there!"

When the four reached the changing rooms, Colin said, "We'll go and find a good seat, Harry!" Before turning around and hurrying off to the stands, camera and Adan in tow, who gave a mock salute before disappearing behind the barracks.

As soon as they were gone, Maya burst out in a fit of giggles. The look on Harry's face was priceless!

"Stop laughing!" moaned Harry, yawning half way. "That was torture," his stomach grumbled, "and I'm so hungry."

Her laughter faded and Maya made an impromptu decision. "Hey, why don't you go into the changing rooms and I'll get you some breakfast? That way, you'll be able to eat before you die of starvation," she suggested, starting to walk backwards.

Harry gave her a grateful smile. "Thanks, Maya!" he called, mimicking her actions to face her while he spoke. "You're the best." With that, he turned and entered the room, and she walked off to the Great Hall to get him something to eat. Maya felt she owed him for being so nice to her.

Maya was making her way to the Quidditch Pitch when she saw some Slytherins strutting along in the corridor, holding sleek broomsticks in their hands.

Weird, she thought, I thought it was only Gryffindors for practice today...

"I don't believe it!" Oliver Wood hissed in outrage. "I booked the pitch for today! We'll see about this!" He shot towards the ground, landing roughly and causing him to stumble as he dismounted his broom. Harry and two ginger twins (who looked like Ron — Maya guessed they were probably his older brothers) followed, a mix of confusion and anger on their faces.

She was now near the stands, but could hear the angry yells more clearly.

"Flint!" Wood bellowed at the Slytherin captain. "This is our practice time! We got up specially! You can clear off now!"

'Flint' was even larger than Wood. He had a look of trollish cunning on his face as he smirked evilly, replying, "Plenty of room for all of us, Wood."

Three girls on the Gryffindor Quidditch Team came down as well, wondering what was going on. Maya noted that there were no girls on the Slytherin Team.

"But I booked the pitch!" said Wood, positively spitting with rage. "I booked it!"

"Ah," said Flint, "but I've got a specially signed note from Professor Snape. I, Professor S. Snape, give the Slytherin Team permission to practice today on the Quidditch Pitch, owing the need to train their new Seeker."

Murmurs broke out amongst the Gryffindor Team, as Wood replied, distracted. "You've got a new Seeker? Where?"

As he spoke, the six large boys parted to reveal a smaller, seventh player. He had a smirk plastered on his pale, pointed face.

Maya's eyes widened in recognition. She knew him! He's the blonde albino kid who tried to steal Harry's breakfast! Courtesy of the girl in question, she slammed a bowl of porridge in his face instead.

The Slytherins started showing off their brooms, saying something to the ginger twins which Maya knew was an insult, if their murderous expression were anything to go by.

Angry, she marched across the pitch, soon joined unexpectedly by Hermione and Ron, who arrived at the stands a few moments after she had.

No one insults a member of my house and gets away with it. Especially not blonde Albinos.
