Jamie's POV
When you've grown up the only child, you don't really feel that sibling protection that some people feel when they're out and about with their sibling.
Well, I haven't really felt a sense of protection growing up at all. My parents both work most of the time so I spent most of my childhood jumping from babysitter to babysitter and I had no siblings.
I don't blame my parents at all. My mum, she's a nurse which means her shifts are all over the place. She'd get called in the middle of the night being begged to come in and cover someone's shift. She worked most nights, days and weekends. She rarely got a day just to herself.
My dad is a paramedic and his hours are similar. You might be thinking, "aw that's cute, they met on the job." They didn't. Well not really. My mum was a witness to a car accident. My dad was in that car accident. My mum saved his life.
It's quite a cute story really, of how they met. But that's going off topic.
It was weird to go from not feeling a close bond with anyone to being surrounded by several people to look out for me. The guys and Hayley.
It's nice. It is. But sometimes it's so suffocating. I'm so used to looking out for myself.
That's probably why I freaked out so much when Derek wanted to help.
It was such a nice thing for him to feel like he had to do. But I have more than enough people who feel the need to protect me too.
If most of your friends are guys, it literally feels like you're wrapped in cotton wool.
Well this is how I explained it to Hayley.
"I understand, Jamie, but that is the freaking cutest thing I've ever heard! He seriously said he wanted to protect you!? Oh my god, marry this guy or I will."
"Hayley, pipe down its 3am. Jeez." I whisper from the other side of Hayley's bed, which is conveniently the cabin above the driver. The biggest bed on the bus. We were currently travelling to our next venue in Japan. It wasn't too far away but we get a free day in Japan tomorrow. Well today, seeing as I have been speaking to Hayley for 3 hours. The guys are little too over excited about it to say the least. Well so am I. But not about buying toys.
"Sorry, I get too excited when it comes to lurveeee." Hayley smirks before popping another piece of popcorn into her mouth. Another convenience about her bed is its above the fridge and the cupboards are an arms length away. How did she get this bed?
"You are so cheesy."
"What can I say. I'm cheesier than a slice of garlic bread."
I raise an eyebrow judgementally at her weird comparison. I sigh, ignoring her hushed cackling. "Do you think I've been a bit harsh with Derek?"
She scrunched up her face to show an expression that seemed to scream 'duh'. "I've been saying that since you met the poor boy. He genuinely seems so nice and you keep pushing him away. Give him a chance." I stare at Hayley's face for a few seconds longer, the cogs turning in my head. "So, will you give him a chance?"
"I'll think about it." I respond.

"How does it look?" I ask Hayley as I model a Pikachu beanie.
Hayley looks up from the other Pokemon memorabilia. She suddenly cracks up but nods her head at the same time. "Adorable." She manages to say in between laughs.
