I wipe the sweat off my forehead as I carry the first box of my crap up to the third floor of the residence hall. I don't understand why they don't make elevators. I made my way down the hall to room 315. I set the box down outside the room and using the key I got about five minutes ago, I open the door. "Hi!" I hear her voice chirp, almost a squeak.
"Hey," I smile awkwardly at the girl unpacking her things in the middle of the tiny room, with what looks like her mom, helping her unpack her things into her closet. "I'm Ivette," I say as I push the box inside the room using both my feet and arms.
"I'm Casey," she smiles back. "It's nice to finally meet you!" she hugs me tightly. Whoa there. Casey had a small figure with long natural blonde hair. Her eyes were a pretty shade of blue and she was wearing a simple pair of jeans with a cardigan. She was your typical pretty blonde girl. Meanwhile, my dark hair and eyes looks soulless next to her's.
"Yeah, you too," I say back. Her mom gives me a smile and a handshake. "I'm going to go bring up more of my stuff," I say leaving the room. Well, that went well.
I was told that I was on the waiting list for the dorms, but just about two weeks ago, I was told there was one space left and it was mine if I wanted it. Only downside was that I wasn't able to pick my roommate like everyone else, so that explains the over enthusiastic roommate.
As I walk down the stairs, I see my brother, Jake, carrying up another one of my boxes. "Ivette, what the hell is in here?" he says struggling.
"Oh c'mon, I thought you were a gym dude now," I laugh. "Room 315," I remind him as I continue my way down to the first floor.
I walk back out to the parking lot where there's all kinds of people movement going on. People moving in their stuff and some helping each other taking in their stuff. I laugh when I see a group of girls in cheerleader outfits carrying large boxes inside the hall. Other students with football jerseys, greek letters, and other types of uniforms, were helping people move in their stuff.
"Hey, we're from Beta Omega Rho, need some help with those?" A student asks, approaching me with two other guys behind him. They all wore their matching greek letters on their hats and shirts. Before I could respond, they each grab a box from the back of my brothers truck. "What room and building?" he asks. Well okay then those are the three last boxes anyways.
"Lamador Hall, 315," I say.
"Crap, she's on the third floor," one of the guys says as we begin walking.
"Hey, I didn't ask for help," I shrug.
"As members of a campus organization, we are required to help with move in day and move out day every year," one of the guys says. Well that makes sense more sense, I don't think cheerleaders would actually want to be out here risking a sprain to a body part out of kindness.
"Are you planning on rushing?" One of the guys asks as we continue our was to my dorm hall. I almost want to laugh.
"Huh? No," I shake my head side to side.
"Why not?"
"It's not my scene," I say. None of them said anything back. They were too busy trying to catch their breaths as we finally approach the third floor. I lead the way to my dorm and open the door for them. They walk in and set the boxes by the empty side of the room.
"Was that the last of the boxes?" my brother asks.
"Yeah," I say. The three guys walk towards the door. "Thanks for the help!"
"No problem!" One shouts as they exit the room.
"Wow, you've only been here for twenty minutes and you already got frat boys in our room," Casey laughs.
