I put my phone away and lay my head down on the pillow with my eyes wide open.
"Could this be her?" I asked myself.
I hadn't realized it had been over 10 minutes that I didn't respond back when I heard another beep. I finally came to my senses and picked up my phone. The message read:
"I actually wanted to say thank you. I'm sorry; I didn't get a chance to do that earlier before. I was in a hurry."
I understood now that I wasn't dreaming. It was indeed her. I typed in my reply on the phone:
"That's alright. I am sorry I acted weirdly. My name is Peter and you are?"
"I am Elise. I am new in this place. I actually moved here two days ago. I like it here; it's quiet and calm." She replied.
Then another message came from her. I was disappointed. It read:
"It was nice talking to you Peter. Good night."
"Good night Elise." I replied.
I was sad. I felt like someone snatched something precious from me. We barely talked and we said our goodbyes. I put my phone aside and closed my eyes. I heard another beeping sound. To my surprise, it was a message from her. I opened it that said:
"Will I see you in the park tomorrow?"
"You will, definitely." I messaged back and added a smiling emoticon to it as well.
I was happy. It had been a while since I felt this much happiness. For a while it even made me forget that I was even sick. I put my phone on the side table as I pressed my head into the pillow and closed my eyes. I fell asleep.
"Peter, Peter. Wake up!"
I opened my eyes slowly and saw my mom. She pushed away the curtains on one side and let the sunlight in my room.
"Come down, Breakfast is ready."
It was a good day. I believe this was the best sleep I ever had in the past few days. I got out of my bed and freshened up. I changed my clothes, and went downstairs to have breakfast. I was smiling. Everything felt good. The sunlight in my room to the breakfast I was having. It all felt great. My mother noticed my smile and asked me suspiciously:
"Is everything all right? You seemed to be in a good mood. It is very unusual. Something happened?"
Even my mother noticed that it was unusual. I, all confused, somehow managed to say:
"Yes, everything is fine. I am just......" I wanted to tell her why I was this happy but I don't know why I couldn't so I didn't.
"Anyways, the breakfast was yummy. Thank you Mom."
She was surprised. I never compliment her breakfast. It was the same old vegetable thing she cooked for breakfast and I never liked it.
I put on my jacket and was about to leave when my mother asked me about taking my medicines. How could I tell her? I don't feel any pain. Not today at least. But I still took them. I told my mother that I was going to the park and I will be a bit late and went out the door. I started walking toward the park.
Does it ever happen that you meet someone for the first time and you have no idea who this someone is and you realize that this person is it? You don't want anyone else in your life. This person makes you feel alive and happy when you thought you didn't deserve those two things; that you couldn't have those things. Well I did meet someone, she was Elise.
I arrived at the park. She didn't mention the time so I got there early. I went to the same bench where I sat yesterday, and waited for her. After a while, I closed my eyes so that time would pass faster. I suppose it did pass quickly because someone shook me after barely 5 minutes. It was her. She looked exquisite. She was dressed in a simple manner but it looked perfect on her.
"I think we have to stop meeting like this." she said while smiling.
"I guess we should." I replied with a smile too.
We started walking together. We walked around the park for a while and talked. She told me where she lived previously and how was it there and I just kept looking at me. Then I told her about my unpleasant incident with a dog in the park last year. She started laughing. She looked adorable while laughing.
Later we both went to the supermarket down the street nearby and grabbed something to eat. When we were done, we continued our walk back to the park.
"I had a good time Peter." she said.
"I also had a lovely time." I replied.
I looked at her, and she was standing there, still and all quiet. I got close to her and before you know it, we both kissed.
A tear came in my eye, and I pushed myself away from her. I can't do this to her. I don't even know that I would be alive tomorrow. I can't continue this where there is no hope. I am dying and I don't want to be someone who would be in her life for a few days and then not be for the rest.
"I am sorry, I have to go!" I said with sadness in my voice.
"What's wrong?" she asked curiously.
I didn't reply her and walked away. I arrived at home. I didn't speak with anyone and ran straight to my room. I locked the door. I threw everything off my tables with anger. Then I sat on my bed and started crying. Suddenly I couldn't breathe. I started coughing. My mother came to the door and started knocking:
"Are you okay?" she asked worriedly.
I couldn't speak, and I started coughing harder. I looked at my hand and I saw blood. I got up and tried to walk to the door and open it but I wasn't able to. I felt dizzy and fell down. I fainted.
