The reflection

When he got home that night all worked up and restless from the stress, the mirror welcomed him with a smile. This he did receive everyday... yet today seemed different, but somewhere in his deep scarred heart he found it strangely familiar.

Dinner was ready - two pieces of bread with jam; all the while that reflection still smiling at him through the table. He walked with heavy steps and somehow dragging his feet to the bed from which he could see the deep moonless sky.

Closing his eyes he imagined his day and sometime later, his life. Time slipped by through the summer breeze and soon he was fast asleep. As the sunlight crept up in the horizon slowly warming up the ground, he laid still and silent as the moonless sky, his body now  cold and pale; The reflection now fading, but still with a smile.
