"West Monroe huh?" I asked my parents, trying not to sound as uninterested as I really was but failing completely.
I heard a light sigh come from the passenger seat, my mom's light blue eyes met mine revealing how sorry she was that we had to move. I knew she was sorry, she explained it a million times; my dad was stationed in Columbus, Mississippi which is four hours away from here but he didn't want to live in Mississippi because of the trouble teenagers were getting in so he chose West Monroe aka the boring-est place on earth. All I see for miles is trees and swamps. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll even see a run down gas station.
"It was the best option for us Camden" My dad explained, looking at me through the review mirror trying to make eye contact with me but I wouldn't because I knew he was giving me the don't-make-your-mother-upset look which is the look I get every time I open my mouth.
I settled with ignoring my dad, seeing that he didn't care what I had to say, and sat by turning up my music to drown out the voice of my dad who was about to start lecturing me about how good this is for us, and how close we'll be as a family. I'm literally over the whole pretending to be a big happy family when nothing seems to go right between us. It's always them against me which means two against one. The odds are not ever in my favor.
We pulled up to my new house, I expected it to be a simple two story house, heck it looked like that from the outside. The house was painted white with a white front door and four white garage doors but the surprise is held when you walk into the house, once I walked through the front door I stood in the huge open space, one way leading to the stairs, the next leading into the family room. Can you guess what the color is? Nope, not white, its red. I trudged up the stairs, bringing one suit case with me. I stopped when I got to the top step. I was in awe of the amazing view in front of me. The walls were covered with a light brown paint and straight ahead of me was marble counter, completed with an island, and egg chairs. Connected to the kitchen is the dinning room which over looks the water and the family room. I made my way down stairs, walking into the sun room and out the door to the amazing view of the water. There sat a white trailer right in front of the boating dock.
"What's that for?" I asked my mom with my finger pointed towards the trailer.
"Well it's a guest house but your father and I just thought you could use it for when your new friends come over." She replied with a smile on her face.
"That would require me to make friends." I huffed under my breath, hopping my mom didn't hear it.
A hand suddenly hit the back of my head lightly, my dad appeared in front of me walking towards my mom who was dipping her toes in the water.
"A thank you would be nice." He sternly looked at me, daring me to say anything negative so he could take away my phone.
"Thanks." I mumbled.
Everything was quiet around us except for the crickets chirping far off. The silence was almost comfortable but then it got ruined when my dad opened his mouth again.
"Your rooms the first one up stairs, closes to the kitchen but don't think about snacking late at night." My mom playfully hit my dad, and smiled brightly at me once again.
"This house has walk in closets, isn't that nice Camden? We also all have our own bathrooms, I know you've always wanted that. Isn't this place so wonderful?" My mom acts like she's in Wizard Of Oz, mesmerized by every little thing she sees.
"Yeah it's pretty nice." I smiled back at my mom. I know she's trying to make me happy and that's all that matters. Maybe I could become accustomed to this place, just give me a few days and I'll be fine.
"You start school tomorrow so you might want to go to sleep early."
Way to kill my joy dad.
