Sophia's P.O.V.
Like every other part of my life, I'm confused yet again. For some reason, I'm on a plane going on some 'once in a lifetime trip to Italy' with seven strangers. As far as I'm concerned, I didn't sign up for anything. As of now, I don't know who the other kids are or where they're from. In fact, I honestly don't know where I am now.
Well, that's a lie. I know I'm on a plane, headed to several places throughout the country. The only other person on this plane is some guy named Jim, and he's sort of creeping me out. Every couple of minutes, he looks back at me, with a sort of frightened, sort of greedy look on his face. I'm actually starting to get a bit scared. To explain further though, I must go back to how I got here.
It was an average day at school, nothing exciting had happened the entire morning, and I was surprisingly bored. Ever get the feeling after you've had a really exciting day at something, and the next day ends up feeling like a year cause nothing exciting is happening now? Well, that's how I felt. My last period of the day is choir, which is usually the best part of my day, primarily because the teacher, Mr. Mallory, loves me. No, not that way. He says I have a beautiful voice and I should consider a career with it. I'm thinking he's got a good idea going on there...
Anyway, there I was in choir, but nothing seemed right. All the notes seemed to mush together. My head started hurting and my vision started getting blurred. I must've blacked out, because the next thing I know, I'm in the nurses office with an icepack on my head and people surrounding me. Slowly, I got up, making sure I wouldn't have another spell of whatever that was. My mom comes rushing into the room, asking me how I felt and the likes. The nurse tried calming her, but it was no use.
"Oh, yes, Sophia, I have news! You've been invited to go to a two week trip to Italy" She screeched, causing the nurse to nearly yell at her to be quiet. She said the loud noises could cause me to faint again. That would have been bad. ery bad. My head was hurting enough as it was, I didn't think I could take any more. Things got sort of fuzzy after that. The nurse told me I had to fill out some form about the, quote on quote, "injury" I got, which didn't make much sens, provided I sort of randomly fainted. Then, Mom practically dragged me out of the building, a smile playing across her face. Yeesh, I didn't expect her to be so happy to get me out of the house to go to Italy.
I protested, saying I wasn't up for going to London cause I had the school play to work on and, oh, what would they do without the main character. It was pointless. I was leaving for London in less than 2 hours.
Two hours later, I was on the plane, waiting for the pilot to come on. The guys who invited me were completely vague and no one was giving me a straight answer to how I got into the contest, much less how I won it. Regardless, the plane was pretty nice. Private jet, with enough food to feed the President's Thanksgiving, and state-of-the-art furniture. Oh, yeah, did i mention there was a frigging Hot Tub on board? Of course, the only real problem I had with that was that creeper, Jim. I did not want to be chillin' in that Hot Tub with him being the only other human with me. So that's where I am now.
So anyway, here I am, and Jim tells me we should be reaching Nevada in about a half hour or so. That'll be a relief. I feel like I could deal with the creep better if there was more than just me against him. And also cause I don't know how to control a plane...
Regardless, maybe the next person who joins me will have a better idea of what's happening. This is really sort of scaring me. I don't understand how mom could just let me go with these strangers on a plane to Italy with seven other kids. It doesn't make any sense. After what seems like hours, Jim tells me I need to put my seatbelt on.
"What seatbelt?" I ask him. I look around, there's nothing that could resemble a seatbelt on this entire plane.
"There," he says, pointing to the Hot Tub.
"Are you nuts? That's a hot tub. Not a seatbelt."
"No. Observe." He walks over to the hot tub/seatbelt and sits in it. The ceiling lights up and chairs come out of the walls, seatbelt attached. I nearly fall over when he gets out of the hot tub completely dry.
"How..."
"Don't ask." He says, smiling. He walks back to the cockpit, leaving me to review everything that just happened. After a few minutes of thinking, I come down to two decisions. Either, A. I'm completely nuts and need help, or, B. this is a dream. I pinch myself, hoping the latter is correct. Nope, nothing happens. Defeated, I sit down in one of the seats and buckle in. Staring out the window, I get lost in my thoughts again.
It was just hours ago that I was bored, playing volleyball and kicking ass, waiting for something more exciting to happen. I can most definitely say that this was not what I was hoping for, or expecting. My thoughts go back to home, and my parents. How could they? A ringing from my pocket jolts me out of my thoughts. it's my mom. I read her text message she sent me, then shut my phone off. She said she hoped I was having fun. How could I, when I'm brought to a banquet against my will with a bunch of strange people. Then again, I could just be overreacting. should be having a blast! No parents, no rules, just me and a bunch of other kids having a party in Italy. It couldn't be that bad, right? I look out the window and see the ground coming up. Finally, I've made it to the first stop. In a way, I've always wanted to come here. Besides Las Vegas, Nevada seems to be a nice place. Having grown up in the city, the woods surrounding the airport is completely different.
I unbuckle the seatbelt and rush to the exit of the plane, ready to greet whoever joins me. I look out the window and jump back as a guy, only a few inches taller than me, stares back through the window. he stares at me for a few seconds, waves, and waits for the door to open. Jim comes over and unlocks the door.
"Sup? I'm Trey"
"Hi! I'm Sophia!" Within minutes, we've struck up a conversation, but on the inside, I'm thinking, ok, this isn't the best. I'm on a plane alone with two guys that are complete strangers. And hot tub seatbelts. Am I dreaming? Probably. Hopefully, another girl will come on soon...
