Short Story #1
Old Man's Temper
A savage roar erupted from the old man's lips as he crushed his lounge room floor again and again with his favourite dining chair.
The small circular table tipped to one side and fell causing the lamp to break and the light bulb to shatter. Enraged the man raised his arms to hit the ground again.
He stopped.
Breathing heavily, he waited with the chair raised, ready to strike. Seconds passed that seemed like hours. Then to his right a quiet squeak was heard. He turned sharply! Nothing.
He sighed and smiled a tired smile. It was over. He put the chair down on all four legs, picked up the lamp and set the small table right. He cleaned the room quickly and with his arms full of debris he and 'it' caused he stood in the doorway one hand on the light switch.
The ground beneath him jumped and shaked. He fell over, his load flew out of his hands, landing on his old back. His breath left him gasping. The ground shook harder! So hard it created a noise very close to thunder. He sat up and examined his lounge room.
The room was a mess from wall to wall. Small bulges moved around under the old man's carpet, seeking escape.
It had happened again!
