Strange Occurances

Short Story #3 - Jordan Lee

As the Captain of a proud ship, Jordan Lee looked in toward the distant shore, he could hear his crew singing a cheery song about the women they missed so dearly, he missed his wife and children very much and had been away with his crew for 8 months, he joined in with the merry song. As he looked out to sea he saw a disturbance in the water. Waves were quickly approaching the ship at a supernatural speed. As it came closer the bigger the waves, there was no time to think, in his deep voice he called, "Battle Stations!" The crew looked around confused. Boom! The ship rocked side to side. Boom! Water seeping through and over the wooden barriers. Boom! There was a yelp from below deck, the chill of death slowly crept over the frightened Captain. Jordan raced down below and found a beautiful woman kneeling over one of the crew, who was now dead with blood around his neck and chest, dripping into the water that was quickly filling up the bottom of the ship. The woman looked at Jordan and snarled. Blood dripping from her mouth, she launched at him and grabbed his arm. He tried to shake her off but to no avail. He screamed out to his crew, there was a return call for help as he heard a wet rip sound come from above. Jordan flinched but then grabbed the woman in return, pulled her off him and ran back to the surface of the ship.

As Jordan reached the deck of his ship he became aware that he was surrounded by many men and women but they looked half fish, half human. He did not know what to do but run and defend! Many launched at him but he was armed with a sword and gun. Five were shot dead from a distance and then the rest were too close so he yanked out his sword and began to slash at anything that had gills. He dodged, he leaped. Then there was two, one male one female, based on appearance. Jordan called to them saying, "What do you want from me? You've killed my men and I have killed yours. Now tell me, what do you want?"

The pair turned to each other and appeared to be talking, moving their lips frantically. In a rich, smooth voice the male calmly said, "Like you we consume others, we are the greatest hunters of the sea and when we saw this, this -" he seemed not to know what type of transportation he was in.

"Ship" Jordan interrupted.

"Yes," Said the scaly man, "When we saw this, ship, it was a test for us to prove to the creatures that roam the land, sky and sea that we are the greatest hunters ever created." The scaly humans came closer crawling on where their legs are meant to be. Uneasy, Samuel asked "What are you?" They laughed, this time the woman answered, "We are the infamous Merpeople."

With that said the scaly man lunged for Jordan's legs pulling them out from underneath him. The female pushed his shoulders back so that he hit the deck of the ship on his back. Opening her mouth wider than any human could she sank her long white fangs into Jordan's neck.

Jordan gasped as pain flooded through his body and he experienced a burning sensation in his legs and torso. Pulling his head up to her shoulder, the female Mermaid hissed into his ear, "You will serve our king well." Jordan's world spun around him as he blacked out.
