"So tell me, what are you doing here?" Shane, the chef's assisstant asks me. I was in the kitchen, which is usually closed off from me, but not around this time of year.

I had an urge to tell him why, but I just shook my head, said, "Sorry," and ran off. You see, my parents believe in truthfulness, but my old nanny use to say that 'if you're in trouble and need time to think of an answer, run off and come back later.' So, I heed her advice.

As I passed one of my favorite servants, a boy named Zachary Kurosaki, on the way to my room, he raised his hand in greeting and called, "Happy birthday, Liz."

"Ah! Finally in my own room!" I spread out on my bed and stare at the ceiling, thinking, 'So I'm four today, huh.'

"Elizzabetta, how has your birthday been going this fine day, my dear?" A small voice asks.

I sat up straight away, "Oh, nanny! I never thought I'd see you again so soon!"

My old nanny just shook her head and smiles at me, her wings fluttering as quick as a hummingbird's just to keep her afloat. Yeah, she's a fairy.

"Well, Elizzabetta, your mother and father asked me to give you a gift. As you probably dont know, once a princess comes of age, her godmother, or in mine and your case, her nanny, gives the little princess a gift. And it must be, according to the law, a wish that has resided itself deep inside your heart. And you, my dear, have become of age to recieve this gift." My nanny held up her hand and placed it on my chest, right above where I'm told the heart is.

"Nanny, I could just tell you." I said. I knew exactly what my gift was to be.

"Well then, please dear, tell me. It saves me the trouble of messing up your heart through my search." She exclaims nervously.

"What I really would like the most is to please everyone." I said confidently.

My nanny sighed, "Is that what you really want?"

When I nodded my head in comfirmation, she just smiled ruefully, and started muttering words under her breath, and I only caught a few words and phrases. Some of the most confusing for me were, 'please everyone,' and, 'expectations to be held.'

For a few minutes we stayed like that, her floating a few inches away from my heart, and me being unable to breathe properly. When she was done muttering, she smiled kindly and said, "Elizzabetta Cordona, you really are a special child."

And that's how my life ended up this way. I feel like one of my favorite book characters, Ella, from the book Ella Enchanted. My gift, or as I like to call it now, curse is to meet everyone's expectations, all the time.
