It took forever, but Wednesday finally came along. I woke up with a smile on my face. Even though I hadn’t slept much the night before from excitement, I still felt wide awake. Today was the day of my date thing… Today was the day that I was going to get to hang out with Ms. Officer OUTSIDE of the mall. Today was the day I was going to get to know her better. Depending on how the day went, today could possibly be the beginning of something beautiful.

“Heyyyyyyyyyy YOU!” I said excitedly to Alicia as I strolled up to the kiosk, clearly extra happy.

“Hey… um, what’s up? Why are you so damn happy today? You DO know we still work at the mall right?” she replied with an inquisitive look on her face. That one eyebrow of hers rose so high it almost hit her hairline.

“Yes, dahhhhlin, I do,” I started, over dramatically, throwing my head back like someone from a movie. “But at the end of my day, I have rendezvous with Ms. Officer!”

Alicia’s jaw dropped. “Really! OMG, you little player you!” She replied, putting an emphasis on the “e-r” in the word player. It was always funny when Alicia tired to speak with a little bit of slang.

“Nope, no playa over here. I just have what the ladies call ‘game’” I boasted, knowing damn well I didn’t have any game whatsoever .

“Yea right,” Alicia said, immediately calling me on my shit. “You don’t have game. I can already tell and I’ve only known you for a few months.”

“Ok ok, maybe I don’t have game,” I replied, “BUT I do have a rendezvous date thing with Ms. Officer which is good enough.”

“Well, good. She’s cute too! You two would look good together.” Alicia said.

“I know right!” I interjected. I was beyond excited about what was to come later that day.

The hours passed and the workday drew closer to an end. I was 15 minutes away from being off and I was already ready to see Jazz. With not a customer in sight, I pulled out my phone to see a message, from her, already waiting to be opened.

I’m at the mall. Let me know when you get off, I’ll be in the food court.

I tapped away my response, I’m pretty much done now, come meet me by my kiosk.

5 minutes later came a simple reply, OK.

“Alicia, she’s coming!” I said, trying to hide my excitement.

“That’s what she said!” Alicia snapped back.

“Girl, you’re not even gay.” I said bursting with laughter.

“It was still funny!” Alicia replied, “and stop smiling so damn hard! She’s going to know you’re sprung and nobody likes a sprung girl.”

“Yea, yea, yea.” I said brushing off the comment.

Moments later, Jazz came strolling up toward the kiosk. My jaw dropped as I saw her. She had on Jordans, Blue jeans that fit just snug enough, and a t-shirt that lie underneath a grey vest. Her hair was now lying down around her face, but there was something… edgy about her appearance; something, masculine about her. Now, I’m not one to judge, but at this point, I couldn’t tell if she was a stud or fem. The crazy thing is: I didn’t care. She still looked good. DAMN good at that. A smile spread across her face and mine as she approached me.

“Hey.” She said.

“Hey.” I replied. I was still stuck on stupid.

Get it together, Caprice! I thought to myself, getting stern with myself in my head.
