CHAPTER 5: I Don't Dance!
.
.
Roanu led me to a large, populated room, filled with people in expensive gowns amd tuxedos, dancing to a slow music. I looked around, slightly uninterested, while Roanu motioned for someone through the crowd. A guy with bright red hair and emerald eyes clad in white tux and having a matching fedora on his head approached us.
"Heya, Roanu! What brings you here?" His smile was even brighter than Kaidan's as he wrapped one of his arm around Roanu's neck and pulled him down.
"Learn to greet people properly," The brown-haired guy said back and pushed the arm away, dusting his clothes in the process, "And that's Knight Roanu to you,"
"Yeah, yeah..." His green eyes finally landed on me, "So, is this the lucky girl?"
"Yes. Her name is-"
"I'm Yazune Moonevia, a pleasure to meet you," I quickly said, bowing, before shooting a glare at the leader. Seriously, I don't need anyone introducing me every now and then like I'm some sort of mute princess. I have my mouth too.
The redhead laughed, placing both hands on his hips as he did so, "Wow, her manners are worse than mine,"
I couldn't help but smirk at that, "Well, I gotta get used to Sol's sytem now right?"
"Yep! Ah, oh right... I'm Akagami Pyresten by the way," He got his fedora hat and bowed, putting it on chest level like a gentleman.
"Anyways," Roanu coughed, breaking our conversation, "Akagami, would you kindly teach Yazune here how to dance?"
My eyes widened and I looked back, "Dance? What for?"
"Well, you'll be needing it to impress the King and Queen, and also to dance with Young Lord as well,"
Oh gosh. No. I don't like social gatherings, let alone dancing with a partner, "I can't dance," I stated bluntly.
"That's why we will teach you," Akagami held out his hand, waiting, "Shall we start then?"
"I'm horrible at it, so you can't make me!" I growled loudly, earning everyone's attention in the room.
Their masqueraded eyes looked at us- at me- as their mouths already formed inaudible words. They whispered to one another while eyes still locked on me, laughing.
I held my head down, fists clench on either side of my waist. Damn these Sols. So judgemental and always looking down at us.
"Ah, let's take this outside then. See ya, Roanu!" Akagami waved at him and proceeded to push me out.
"Hey..!" I stumbled on the way.
Akagami brought me to the high balcony facing the wide forest at the back. The cold breeze swept past us as we stepped over to the railing. What I saw was a couple of people by the open space visible to where we are, chopping wood and hauling them to a nearby truck.
"Oh yeah, it's wood hour already, huh," He stated, rubbing the back of his head as he faced me, "Hope you don't mind woodcutters,"
Honestly, I was surprised they had woodcutters in their place. For all I know, they have machines to do it for them, while the actual manual laborers lives in the Moon Kingdom.
"Nah, I'm fine,"
"Okay! Let's start with the basics," He tapped his chin thoughtfully for a while, and I almost thought that that expression didn't suit him, "Ah! Accepting dance invitations,"
He stepped closer to me, kneeling and then raising his hand at me, "May I have this dance, Milady?" His smile was different from the original happy-go-lucky smile he had a while back. This one was disciplined and royal- almost too practiced.
"No."
"E-eh..."
I crossed my arms, "I can't dance so leave me alone,"
"That's not how you should refuse! Don't be so blunt cuz it makes you not so princessy..." He half joked, "Just say that you're waiting for someone, okay?"
"And who am I supposed to be waiting for?"
Akagami facepalmed, sighing in the process before holding his hand out again, "Let's begin anyways,"
I didn't bother uncrossing my arms because I knew very well that my mind was made up and I will not dance. Unfortunately, he wouldn't give up either. He grabbed my right hand with his left, still gently, and put his right on my back, causing me to flinch at the contact.
"Relax. Good, now put your other hand on my shoulder," He commanded.
I did so slowly, placing my hand on his broad shoulder, and then looking down to my feet. He only smiled and then said, "Okay, we'll start moving now."
"So the footworks for forward walking steps are normally taken with the heel first in contact with the floor, with the toe lowering as the body moves over it." He demonstrated it to me slowly and I followed it in a robotic manner.
He nodded and then continued, " Backwards walks are taken with the toe first, with the heel lowering as the body moves over it. At the same time, the toe of the forward foot is released from the floor as the body moves away. Side steps normally use the toe first.."
I hung my head low as I tried to comprehend the steps, also trying to imitate his foot in dancing. He watched me with calculating eyes, correcting me even in the slightest mistakes.
"Move your waist more, geez," He squeezed my waist with his hand and I yelped in surprise.
"Pervert!!!" I screamed, whipping his hand away and backing off.
"Ah, calm down. It's not like you have a nice waist," He grinned as he said that, almost as if he really meant it.
I glared at him, crossing my arms, "Well, sorry for reacting! I just don't want physical contact from creeps like you!"
"I'm not a total creep,"
"Still, you're partly a creep,"
He stared, still with bright eyes, before laughing, "You're so weird, you know,"
"Pardon?"
Akagami stepped closer, leaning down until I could feel his breath on my ear. I didn't move, waiting for his statement.
"I guess Lunes can be interesting too," He said in a husky voice, almost like he was a different person.
I huffed, pushing him away, "Unfortunately, you Sols are exactly how I expected you to be,"
He laughed again, "Oh, don't be so judgemental!" Then he extended his hand again.
I stared at it for a while, before sighing in defeat, "Fine," And I placed my hand on his.
