You biked back from the store enjoying the gentle breeze and sunlight on the way back to your apartment. Well... your apartment for now. Your actual apartment was torn in half by a monster last week. Since monster attacks are a normal occurrence construction crews worked fast to replace entire skyscrapers, but it still took a little time to repair everything. Saitama and Genos were such good friends to let you stay.
Even though you and Saitama knew you liked each other you two weren't dating yet. It was just nice to take the whole crush thing steady and slow. Although Genos was ever the wingman trying to get you two together.
You focused back onto the world around you as you arrived at the complex. Stepping off and grabbing the package from the bike's basket you made your way up the steps.
With everything going on you hadn't been able to buy a thank you gift for your hosts until now. So it was a relief to finally find something they could use. These two weren't people you could just get a decoration for.
"Hey (Y/N)!"
You looked up to see Genos wearing his apron standing inside the threshold.
You wave but he just points to your bike. "Aren't you going to chain that up?"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After you chained up your bike and thanked Genos for reminding you you started helping him with the dishes.
"So (y/n) have you spoken with Sensei today?" Genos said eyeing you with suspicion.
"We're still not dating Genos," you chuckled before looking over at the cyborg. "Where is Saitama anyway?"
"Out buying dinner for tonight. I stayed behind to make sure you got home safe." He then looked you directly in the eyes. "Sensei's order," trying to impress upon you the gravity of it.
"That's sweet of him."
"Yes Sensei cares for you deeply."
"I get it Genos."
"But I do not think that you do (y/n). Saitama-Sensei cares for you and shows it in little ways. Like how he let you have the last carrot from the fridge-"
"I don't think that he cared Ge-"
"Or how Sensei always lets you control the stereo even though your taste in music is questionable-"
You started to grumble, "you know if you didn't like it you could have said-"
"And you show that you care too (y/n)!"
"I know I'm me."
"Like how you continue to overlook Sensei's baldness and plain appearance!"
"HEY ARE YOU STILL ON ABOUT HOW I'M BALD?!"
You leaned back to see past Genos. Your eyes fell upon a steaming mad Saitama in the hallway holding take-out. You broke into a grin and waved your soapy hand at him.
"Hey Tama! Thanks for bringing dinner!"
Saitama returned to his normal expression in a heartbeat, "I'm gonna set it on the table if you two are done talking smack on me."
"Oh come on you know we would never do that!"
"(Y/n) is right Sensei we /both/ think very highly of you!" You side glanced at Genos but he refused to look at you full well knowing what he was doing.
"I'll get the silverware!" You chimed not being able to help the smile gracing your face.
At the table the two heroes sitting with you couldn't help but be confused.
"Hey, where's our silverware?" Saitama wondered while Genos waited for you to answer.
"I'm glad you asked!" You pulled out the box you had been carrying for a while and opened it to reveal two pairs of nice wooden chopsticks. "Thank you for letting me stay here."
They both looked a little shocked that you bought them anything. "(Y/n) are you sure?" Saitama asked reaching for a pair.
He picked up the black pair with a golden design on the handles while Genos picked the bamboo pair with a pink floral handles.
"Positive!"
Genos didn't hesitate to thank you but Saitama looked unsure.
"Saitama... what's wrong?"
"Sensei?" Genos tensed up at the sight of his teacher acting so strangely.
He stopped looking at the chopsticks and shifted his gaze back to you. "You know.. you really don't have to buy me stuff. I don't want you spending all your money on me I really don't need this."
He felt bad that you spent money on him. You really didn't think that it would worry him like this.
"It's fine really Tama! I wanted to and besides..." You smiled, "I got them on sale." He grinned at that and Genos relaxed again.
Saitama picked up some of his udon, "I knew you were clever when we started dating!" He was about to shovely it into his mouth before you and Genos' widened eyes and gapping mouths stopped him. "What?"
"Saitama, how long have we been.... dating?"
"Almost two weeks." He looked panicked wondering what he did wrong. "What?"
Genos couldn't help but let out a little chuckle and you were trying so hard not to burst out laughing.
"Well next time we start dating Tama please tell me first."
"....."
"OH"

Hey guys! This is my first reader insert and it was inspired by the fact that every time my father's business partner and friend visited from Taiwan he would give us a gift for hosting him. This happened over a long period of time and visits but one of the things he would sometimes gift to us were nice chopstick that you reuse and are quite beautifully detailed.
I know that Japan and Taiwan are completely different don't get me wrong. I just loved the idea of honoring hospitality and I always thought it was so respectful of him to do that and I thought about it today so yeah.
