Author's Note:
I am so sorry I haven't written in almost a week! I have been dealing with family drama, and I myself have made the decision to move out. It's been tough trying to pack everything and get ready for that so that's my excuse for being away for so long.
Y'all are probably going to hate me for this chapter but here goes nothing!

~~

Avery and Tyler never really went anywhere romantically. It was really just plain awkward between the two of them after the night they kissed.

Every night after that, on Avery's night shift, Tyler would come down to visit. Somehow he would still be able to get up in the morning for work. Somehow.

They would just sit there and talk. Just normal and casual conversation. Until one night it was interrupted by the first birth of the year.

Me: "Yeah so I never really was good in school. I mean I passed but not with flying colors."

Tyler: "Oh trust me I was the exact same way. Except I barely scraped by..."

He was about to continue saying something else related to the conversation when there was a deep groan of pain that came from Tilly's stall.

Tyler got up really fast and ran to the door of her stall.

Tyler: "Ring the doorbell, she's in labor."

I suddenly became all excited. This would be my first birth, to witness. I rang the doorbell once and Tyler turned around.

Tyler: "It's okay to hit it multiple times, that old man never wakes up. I mean unless you wanna help."

I began hitting it a bunch of times. I wanted to witness it but I certainly did not by any means want to help. He laughed at me then.

Chuck finally came in. Better late than never I suppose. Tyler was helping Tilly give birth. He claimed he could see the front hooves. When Chuck heard that he came running.

The birth was successful.

Tilly gave birth to a little boy. I forget the proper names, like how baby horses are either a colt or a filly. I forget what Tyler said cows were. The little guy was standing within 15 minutes of coming into the world. And I just stood there in awe.

Chuck gave me the rest of the night off, seeing as when he found that Tyler had been awake with me every night he got a little angry.

Chuck: "So that's why it's been nearly impossible to drag you out of bed in the mornings! Don't be letting a pretty girl come between you and your work, son."

I lowered my head and just stood there awkwardly while he was being scolded.

Chuck: "Ms. Avery you can go home for tonight. Just write it down on your time sheet for me please."

I nodded and did as he asked.

I went to jump into my truck by Tyler stopped me.

Tyler: "Hey I'm sorry you had to witness that."

Me: "It's okay. I just feel bad, because.."

He interrupted me, "No it is not your fault, it was my choice too ya know."

I smiled faintly at his weak attempt of flirting. This was going to be the conversation I was trying to avoid. But I had to know.

Me: "So where do we stand?"

He looked at me confusedly and took a few moments to answer.

Tyler: "I just feel like with my work schedule and your travelling plans. It's just not going to work out between us. Don't get me wrong I would've loved to give it a try, but we both have our own obligations."

Me: I nodded before saying, "That's exactly what I was thinking too. I'm just glad we are on the same page. I'll definitely stick around until the end of birthing season, but after that I think I should hit the road again."

He nodded this time and we said a quick goodnight.

It is a good thing that he wasn't going to end up tying me here. I still have a lot of places to visit. He did say that I know where to find him if I ever change my mind.
