After leaving the diner I sat in my truck typing the address of the barn into my phone. 

376 Maple Leaf Drive

I hit "go," started my truck and followed my GPS all of the 23 minutes it took to get there. 

The driveway was a long winding dirt road. With white fenced pastures on either side. Looking out in the distance all I could see was horses, horses and more horses. This place is huge! 

I pulled into a parking spot at the top of the driveway next to what I'm guessing is the main barn. I followed a brick pathway to a door that was labeled "Main Office."

I knocked before opening the door and walking inside.

Me: "Hello?"

There was a desk in the corner and a middle aged woman looked up from her computer at me. 

Lady: "Can I help you?"

Me: "Actually I was looking for Jenna,.. Jenna Vale?"

Lady: "That's me, hun."

Me: "Oh. Um well I had heard from a waitress in town that you recently lost one of your hired hands, and I am in desperate need of a job."

Jenna: "Is that so?"

Me: "Yes ma'am."

Jenna: "You couldn't have come at a better time. The jobs yours, want a tour?"

Me: "Sure if you have the time."

She smiled at me before saying; "Actually I was going to call up another one of my workers. By the way I never caught your name hun."

One thing I did notice is that she adds "hun" after almost every sentence. "I'm Avery, Avery Wells."

Jenna: "Nice to meet you dear." Oh she changed it up, I thought to myself.

Just then a walkie talkie went off from the top of her desk. *Beep beep* "Hey Jenna what's up?"

It was a male voice. Great. 

Jenna: (Into the walkie): "Hey Levi could you come up to barn and give your new coworker a tour of the place?"

Levi: (Back to Jenna): "Sure thing boss."

She laughed to herself and looked up at me. "He'll be up here momentarily. And don't take it personally but he flirts with anyone he meets. Just the way he is."

I swallowed really loudly. "Okay thanks for the warning."

Just then I heard an ATV pull into the driveway just outside the window.

Jenna: "There he is now." She motioned for me to leave.

Me: "Thank you for your time, it was nice meeting you."

She nodded and looked back down at her computer screen. 

I walked out the office door and met this tall handsome boy out front. He has light brown hair and most amazing eyes I have ever seen! Luckily he was wearing a shirt so our first time meeting wouldn't be as awkward. 

Levi: "Hi how are you?"

I reached out my hand to shake his first.

Me: "I'm good how are you?"

Levi: "Good, but it's pretty hot out huh?"

I could tell that he was just making casual conversation with me.

Me: "Yeah you ain't kidding."

Levi: "I never caught your name."

Me: "Oh right I'm Avery."

Levi: "And what's a pretty lady like you doing in a small town like this?"

I blushed but then remembered what Jenna said about him; 'he's  flirt don't take it personally that's just how he is.'

Me: "Oh just travelling and seeing as much as I can see before going back to school next year."

Levi: "And lemme guess you need a quick job in order to keep moving?" He seemed angry at first. "Does Jenna know this?"

Me: "No, she didn't really ask."

He sighed loudly. "Well come on lets go, feeding starts in an hour and none of the horses are inside yet."

I followed him around the property as he showed me the stalls, tack room, feeding room, the indoor and both outdoor rings. 

Levi: "Are you comfortable operating an ATV?" He asked out of the blue.

Me: "Yeah why?"

Levi: "That's how I get the horses inside." He closed one gate which locked off access to the field behind the barn where the outdoor arenas are. "We herd them into the isle and they automatically go into the right stalls."

Me: "Easy enough." He tossed me a set of keys and showed me the basics of the machine, even though I knew it already.

Levi: "Mind giving me a ride up to the office so I can grab my ATV?"

Me: "Sure no problem." I jumped on and scooted as far forward as I could, in order for him to sit behind me. 

Levi: "So for the most part all of the horses get along so we can herd them all inside at once. As long as you stay behind the pack and keep them moving forward I can keep opening the gates and letting them in."

I nodded in response and we were off.
