One year. It had been one year since they stood upon that cold shore of Bad Wolf bay staring at the fading TARDIS. Rose had her doubts about the situation she was in with the Doctor's metacrisis on the car ride home. She had to somehow convince herself that he was the same man but that nagging thought in the back of her mind knew better. He was just a clone, an echo of what the Doctor was. He was human. Nothing would ever change her mind, at least that's what she thought.
It did not take long at all for those thoughts to change surprisingly. He acted so much like the Doctor (with a hint of sassiness) the way he ranted about random planets and creatures. The way he strode around as if he was in control and the absolute love for bananas. He had that same genius of a mind and the endless energy. It only took Rose a week to call him "Doctor" without a doubt. In a sense he was better. Traveling with an immortal alien, that could just regenerate and move on once you grew old and died, created walls that couldn't come down or it would hurt him. This time, this Doctor, he could grow old with her and share their one life. This time he could open up so much more. He told Rose countless stories of his (or the original copies) past that he wouldn't ever had otherwise.
The Doctor fit right into life or in a way set a new one. If anyone claimed that they would've lived out the rest of their lives in the calm and tranquility of a normal life, well they were dead wrong. The Doctor practically ran Torchwood now. He invented gadgets that she had witnessed in the future but had not been born during her time. Their technology advanced at an astonishing rate as he complained about not having certain items that he couldn't live without. If he wasn't there constantly fiddling with gadgets and running around with Rose, this universes earth may not have survived. This world was no safer than the other and during that first year the two of them encountered over 20 species of aliens. Most friendly but the others were obviously invading the planet. The Doctor and Rose's defense of the planet for those numerous times had caught the attention of U.N.I.T., the Chinese division. This was no problem for the Doctor as he still retained the knowledge of every language. Rose hadn't been able to witness his language skills very often before due to the TARDIS translating everywhere they went.
Joining U.N.I.T (the UK division) as consultants had troubled Rose at first but the Doctor reassured her that it was fine as long as they were like the ones in the other universe. He had apparently been part of them for several centuries to her surprise. They had been very interested in Rose's work in Torchwood and tried to pry any information out of the Doctor after seeing his brilliance and the Time Lord side. Rose's dad, Pete, had told them that it was these very two that had saved the earth from the Cybermen, and in a sense, that was true. The Doctor immediately gained the trust of the woman in charge after talking about some previous commander named Brigadier that was apparently her granddad.
After their first job of only two days, the Doctor and Rose left with piercing cheers. They had cleared up a problem with some Zygons at an unbelievable pace according to those in U.N.I.T. The Doctor's knowledge earned him great respect. That was definitely for his favor as no one had worked with a friendly alien before and no one knew who he was. It was very interesting for Rose to watch him have to build a reputation all over again. From what they knew there wasn't another Doctor and TARDIS defending the universe. They had heard a rumor of an ancient being that disappeared out of thin air after saving a tribe In the early 1400s and they called him "Master". At this the Doctor's face lit up. He went off on a rant about the mysteries of parallel universes and that people may end up with opposite personalities. "Who knows I might be some old headless dog on Barcelona munching on crispy treats." He shoved her shoulder in a teasing way. She laughed at this. After all it wasn't impossible she had been a dog in this universe.
Home life with the Doctor had its chaotic moments but for the most part he was excepted as part of the family. His love of kids earned tremendous points with Tony. He spoiled him rotten making unearthly gizmos that made even Rose a little jealous.
He and Pete, for the most part, got along. Pete would use the Doctor for any foreign negotiating due to his very persuasive personality, but mostly because of his fluent knowledge of every language.
Jackie accepted him with open arms and they had some refreshing conversations. This was definitely a relief after their last relationship with his past incarnation. One of Rose's greatest fears of her time with the Doctor almost came true during a conversation with her mum. Jackie had said something very typical of herself and the Doctor snorted and whispered a sarcastic comment in Rose's ear. Jackie had shot back like she would typically do but something very untypical happened. The Doctor snapped back. Stunned Jackie did the same and on it went. Rose had to eventually break them up. What had happened was definitely a perk come from Donna. She had to explain that to her mum later and the Doctor apologized which kept the peace between them. For now.
The human side, that was Donna's, of the Doctor would come out here and there but it gave him a gut instinct that he had so admired in humans. The Doctor had to get used to a human body which was a little difficult at first. The fully Time Lord Doctor was a big eater with large portions but he didn't have to eat nearly as often as humans. This proved to be a problem for the half Time Lord as he frequently forgot to eat and sleep. He stayed up late into the night and didn't get much, if any, sleep which wound him in the hospital, twice. He would, of course, grumble to himself about the delicacy of the human race whenever Rose inquired him if he had drank anything and how many hours of sleep he had the night before. After the first three months since Bad Wolf bay he had grown accustomed to his new body and could determine what was lethal to this body and what wasn't.
The Doctor hadn't lost all his Time Lord abilities as she had thought. He still had a habit of randomly licking things to tell what it was made of and how old it was. It took a couple of licks though.
The Doctor could still create a psychic link by placing his hands on another head. She figured it was a little harder but he still could.
