                                           Malaria

"What room is she in doctor?" I asked, impatiently about to just jump on her back like a wicked lion.

"I think you should take a seat and rest before you see her Ms.Pentle." The doctor explained holding the clipboard closer to her body. Almost as if she was hugging it.

Hugging it like she wanted to hug me that tight. Hug me that tight and tell me the bad news. The bad news that I couldn't handle. The bad news that I couldn't handle at all.

"Doctor... Michelle." I read her name tag before continuing my explanation trying to contain my mixed emotions. "I need to see my baby..now."

She sighed lightly before turning her back and walking off and I closely followed almost passing her.

We walked to the elevator and she pressed floor number, six. I waited, tapping my leg fastly.

I bit my lip once the elevator dinged, opening. She stepped off and I did the exact same following her.

I looked around reading the board hanging from the wall "Extensive Children's Care Unit".

And with reading that my heart beat almost drifted sky high making me stumble a bit. I think the doctor sensed it turning around and taking me to a seat.

"Please, sit." She demanded sitting herself. I sighed doing the same feeling myself began to get dizzy.

"I want you to calm yourself Malaria. Before I let you go in there as a doctor, you have to calm down before you end up in one of these too." Dr.Michelle explained with her sincere green eyes staring back at me.

I wanted to smack the green outta her damn eyes and run to the room. But, I had no idea where I was. I felt like she threatened me with the "before you end up in one of these too" part.

I should slap her ass.

But I won't. I think I'm growing.

After a moment or so she stood and I followed like a shadow as we walked down a hall we passed through rooms with all kinds if special needs children and ones who were in comas and all sorts of things wrong with them.

But one room caught my eye and made me stop, a black little girl with long hair that was pulled into a ponytail laid across the white bed. Covered in the hospital sheets, she looked already pale. Like she had passed a while ago.

I watched I'm guessing her mother balling her eyes out holding her hand. She sobbed and she screamed and soon someone came and shut the door.

I could've sworn a tear trembled down my cheek praying to god mentally that I wouldn't have to be the mother in that chair holding my baby for dear life yelling to God to bring her back and take me instead.

I wiped the tear quickly turning to just in time catch up to Dr.Michelle to be turning the corner.

We walked for about another second or two before we stopped in front of a room, the door closed.

It read occupied and the curtains covered the glass.

The doctor stopped turning to face me with a worried facial expression playing on her face.

"Ms.Pentle. When you enter this room please-"

I ignored whatever she began to say opening the door and she gasped loudly.

I walked in taking in everyone sitting in the chairs and some standing.

Kendrick sat beside her holding her hand with his head caved into the bed, Xiana sat next to Chen in chairs as they stared down at the ground holding one another's hands.

Kendrick's brother, Caron sat posted up against the wall staring at my baby's face.

I walked closer arriving at her bed side instantly breaking down, I covered my mouth to muffle my tears as I took in every inch of her body.

Her hair was tied into two ponytails, she was dressed in the hospital clothing but what was most important was the way she looked.

My heart ached and the burning sensation fell into the back of my throat.

It soon climbed down into my stomach hitting me hard.

I took in the appearance of her face, the red scratches, the black eye, the bruises all over her.

I felt myself catch a wave of anger and ran out of the room with the doctor following right behind me.

"Malaria!" She called grabbing my arm and chucking me around to face her.

Seeing her green eyes water made me break down into a busload of tears and she grasped me close letting me sulk into her uniform.

My baby.

Not my baby.

They same words replayed in my hand like a musical.

All I hoped for was a miracle.

I began grabbing at her coat screaming, like the mother who lost her child.

I hope I never get to experience that.

"Why my baby?" I cried catching sincere glances and a couple sympathy smiles.

She pulled me into an empty room closing the door and we sat down.

I wiped my tears closing my eyes and sitting up straight. I had to be strong for my baby. My baby Jacana.

I opened my bloodshot orbs watching the doctor watch me.

"What happened to my baby Dr.Michelle?" I questioned with my raspy voice.

"Well she's been diagnosed into a coma."

And those were the words that made me rampage. I closed my eyelids letting the silent tears take me, they rolled down my face like Humpty Dumpty.

It was all so surreal, just the other day we were playing Barbie's. Just the other day she was holding my hand. Just the other day she was talking. Living. Being Jacana.

Now she's like the little girl laying in the bed. Like the little girl drifting up to God.

I'm not one to question the man above but why did this have to happen to my baby?

"Is she gonna be okay Dr.Michelle?" I asked, just for reassurance.

"Yes, ofcourse Malaria. I'm telling you, I'm going to take care of her. Just for you and she'll be back in no time. It's nothing serious" She explained grabbing my hand lifting the biggest load off of my shoulders. "I don't know what happened, she was dropped off by some woman with dark brown hair and she left leaving her laying on a chair."

I opened my eyes wiping my warm tears, I small smiled standing up with Dr.Michelle hot on my tail.

"She's been in a coma for about two days now. She was just emitted earlier though." She called out after me but I continued to exit the hospital.

I know exactly who did this. Exactly who did it.

Raquel.
