One Strange Family

Strangest of All

Everyone was sleeping soundly in the tree. The sound of crickets rang through the air. Gina, Dakota, and Arietta were sleeping together. Arietta's wings were over both of them. A gasp could be heard from the next room. Maleficent jolted up. She felt a strong kick from the baby. It made her scream out in pain. It woke Diaval up and he sat up. "What's wrong?" He said, slightly panicked. "I think, I think the baby's coming." Diaval jolted out of bed and went to wake up the girls. Soon they were all headed to the castle in a wagon. Diaval was tied to it in his horse form, running as fast as he could but as gentle so he wouldn't hurt Maleficent. They reached the castle and Diaval ran inside calling for the nurse. Dakota and Gina went up to William's room and found him awake. "I expected you to be knocked out Will." Dakota said. "I was. The squealing nurses woke me." William said. Dakota and Gina chuckled. "Glad to see their as excited as we are." Dakota said still carrying Arietta. "You can put her on my bed. I'll sleep on the couch." Dakota went and laid Arietta down on the bed and sat at the corner of the bed. "So what's happening?" William asked curiously. "You're grandmother is giving birth." Dakota smirked. "That sounds weird." William giggled. Gina and Dakota joined him. They all fell asleep soon after. Back down in another room Maleficent laid in a bed breathing hard. Diaval was next to her holding her hand. He caresses some hairs away from her face and ran his fingers through her hair. "Diaval." She called out. "I'm here." He said softly. Maleficent sighed and then screamed out in pain again. It was morning when Dakota woke up to a wide eyed Arietta. "Hey. What's wrong?" She asked. "Why are we at the castle again?" Dakota smiled. "Your dear baby sibling decided to come last night." "Really!" Arietta said. "Shhh, you're gonna wake everyone." Dakota chuckled. "You'll get to see him when Aurora comes okay?" Arietta nodded and laid down next to Dakota. They talked quietly for a few minutes when Gina and William woke up. They all decided to go downstairs into the kitchen where Mary was cooking up some breakfast. "Morning Mary." They all said. Mary jumped and turned to look at the small group. "Good morning. Did you sleep well?" She asked turning back to her pancakes. "Well, considering there was squealing nurses running about. I don't know. I think I slept okay." William said. "Oh dear Prince, do not worry. You'll get used to it. The nurses here tend to everyone in the kingdom thanks to your mom. She has provided everyone with the best nurses." William shook his head in defeat. Gina chuckled and Dakota went off to search for food. "What would you sweethearts like today." They all looked at each other. "Anything." They said and laughed. Mary chuckled, "Pancakes with strawberries, whipped cream, with eggs and bacon it is." "That sounds like a feast." Dakota said. Soon Diaval walked in. "Goodmorning." He said. "Daddy!" Arietta said jumping into his arms. Diaval chuckled and kissed her cheek. "Can we go see the baby now?" She asked, excitement written all over her face. "Morning." Aurora said. "Hello Aurora." Arietta said. "Morning." The twins said between bites. "Good morning mother." William greeted. Aurora smiled and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "Good morning my Prince." William smiled. Philip came in later, still drowsy and tired from yesterday's hunt. "Well isn't the kitchen lively today." Mary said smiling. Everyone chuckled and ate their food. Diaval left for a few minutes and came back. "The mother would like-" "4 Pancakes with blueberries and a side of bacon and grape juice." Mary interrupted him. "How did you know." Diaval asked curiously. "It's my job to know. A cook's instinct." Mary said while grabbing the tray of food. She headed out the door and everyone followed her. When she arrived at the door Mary knocked before entering. She disappeared inside. "Alright. Now um, well I think you all know the drill. With her at least. New baby means-" "She'll be extra protective so no sudden movements." They all said and smirked. Diaval laughed and nodded. "Okay, I can see you all studied." "Dady I want to see the baby." Arietta said. "Alright, come on." Diaval said picking her up. Mary walked out the door, tray in hand and smiling. "She's ready." She said and walked away. Diaval walked in first. Maleficent looked up from the bundle in her arms. Diaval came in with Arietta. She smiled and let her daughter look at her her new sibling. "Meet your new baby brother." Diaval said quietly. The baby slept and snuggled closer to the warmth coming from his mother. His cheeks were a nice pinkish color and his skin as fair as his mother's. He had a set of brown wings with black tips and small bumps on his head that would eventually turn into horns. His hair was also a mix between Maleficent's and Diaval's. A brownish black. There was another thing that caught her eye and it was the marks on his face. There was the shape of a crescent moon with a dot on each side in the middle of his forehead and then two small slashes in the middle of his noes and then a couple of dots under his eyes with three more under the dots and then a couple more under his lips that went down to his chin. Arietta looked at them and curiously went to touch them. Maleficent's motherly instincts were telling her to pull the baby away but she resisted. "The others are waiting outside." Diaval said softly. Maleficent smiled and told him to let them in. Arietta climbed on the bed and sat next to her mother. Dakota entered first and then everyone else joined her. Her and Gina went to look at the baby. "Aw, I remember when Arietta was like that. So small." Dakota said softly. Aurora and Philip came next and looked at their new baby brother. Aurora almost teared up at seeing his face. "I'm going to cry again." She said quietly. Philip chuckled and moved her slightly away so William could get a look. He smiled and then looked confused. Maleficent noticed this and smiled. "What's wrong?" She asked. Everyone's attention was on William and then he said, "I have a baby uncle and a seven year old aunt." Everyone laughed and Dakota waited till they all calmed down to ask her question. "So this brings me back to my question. What is he?" The room went quiet until Maleficent spoke up. "He is. Well. He is a grand Fae with the traits of a shape shifter. The marks on his face say that he was blessed by gods of magic. The marks say that he is far more powerful than I. And he shall rule the land like no other King. He would be far wiser, more loving and kind, more respectful and respected. He will be known throughout the lands and any who dare go against him well now at his feet. He will be known throughout the ages to come as one of the most powerful Kings of all times. That is what he is. That is what I've been told. Not by man but by a spirit. A spirit of love and kindness. By your mother." She said looking at Dakota and Gina. "And that my dear daughters is what your marks say about you." She finished. "Woah." William said breaking the silence. "Thats cool." He smiled. "Extremely." Philip said as well. Everyone else laughed and then Gina asked what the baby's name would be. "His name. He is name well be Keaton, meaning where Hawks fly." "Woman careful, you might make Diaval jealous." Dakota smirked. Diaval stuck out his tongue in return. The baby started to stir and he opened his eyes. Maleficent smiled down at him and caressed his cheek with a finger. Arietta gasped a woah when she saw his eye color. William looked and gasped. "Woah. His eyes are super cool. Mom come look." Aurora chuckled expecting to see emerald eyes or black as night but she was nowhere close to right. "Oh wow." Philip was behind her with the same expression. Dakota and Gina decided to investigate and they didn't expect anything like that. Keaton's eyes were a brilliant amethyst. The corners of his pupil were bluish green. And the outer side of the iris was a blackish silver. "Wow. Just. Wow" Dakota said. "He's gonna get all the girls." Gina said. "Not on my watch." Dakota said protectively. Everyone chuckled and talked for a couple more minutes before they left leaving Diaval and Maleficent with the baby. "He's amazing." Maleficent smiled and kissed him.

A year later the family had a picnic in the Moors. The sun was out, the sky was clear, and the fae were out and about. Maleficent sat on the picnic blanket playing with young baby Keaton and the rest of the family were out in the field playing a new game they made. Something about catching a ball and running to the other side if the field, tackling anyone that got in your way. It was a strange game really. But they had fun with it so she let them be. Keaton played with a teddy bear given to him the day of his christening. That very same day Dakota and Gina were named Queens of the mountains. And now here they were again in the Moors again. Playing and insane game. William came up and sat next to Maleficent. "Tired?" She asked. "Yes, I don't know how they can run any longer. My legs feel like jelly." He said. Maleficent chuckled and handed him a cup of water. After he finished he started playing with Keaton. Soon everyone else joined in with playing with the baby, "You're all going to spoil him to death." Maleficent chuckled. Keaton started laughing and everyone looked to see that a butterfly landed on his nose. It flapped it's wings and flew away seconds later. After they ate they all sat there looking out into the fields. Dakota looked around. She looked at her sister and at Arietta and William and then Aurora and Philip and then Diaval and Maleficent and finally Keaton. They had a grand fae who once was evil and lost, a bird who could shape shift into anything, a queen once princess who was once cursed as a babe, a king once prince who was clueless in some things, two twin queens once cursed sisters who one was supposed to kill the other and were gifted a sacred gift, a prince once peasant slaved by an evil witch, a princess born from love and trust and powerful baby prince who was given a sacred gift and was born to rule. She smiled at them. "You know, we are one strange family." She said. Everyone chuckled knowing that it was true. They were all strange in a way. And here they were sitting together, enjoying the beautiful view. Then a heartbeat was heard. Gina and Dakota looked at each other. They looked and focused their hearing but heard nothing, they were shocked and looked towards Aurora. They heard the heart beat again. They looked at each other and smirked. "What are you two smirking about?" Diaval asked. "Nothing." They both said. Then Dakota thought again. 'And a babe unknown to the world yet.' "Very strange." She smiled.
