Even If We Die Today...

The Last Time We Said "I Love You"

     We walk until Zane said stop. He held my hand I stopped. 

     "Close your eyes." His pearly white teeth look at me. I questioned myself whether to close my eyes or not. A few second later I close them, hoping he won't splatter something on my face. My hands are still in-locked with his. Zane drags me and we walk for a while. I should just open my eyes, but it is our anniversary so maybe it's a surprise. 

     " Ok stand right there." he says. I stop and he lets go of my hands.

     " Where are we? If you ditch me again I'll kill you! " 

     " Just stand still and open your eyes when I say so." I sigh, leaning on my right leg and nodding my head. 

     " Go ahead. Open your eyes." I open them and it didn't take me long to recognize where we are. I run up to Zane and hug him tightly. 

     " Happy Anniversary!" I'm literally smiling from ear to ear right now. 

     " Great choice. I can't believe you remember the first time we met. The tree still has our carving from three years ago." I touch the tree bark that says "V+Z" 

     " Do you think I'd forget this. Let's eat." He set up a picnic for me. It wasn't the best food but it was sweet that he did this. After we ate, we both laid on the ground, my head on his shoulder, and looked at the stars. It reminded me of when I was a kid.

     " I wish we can lay here forever." I say 

     " Me too." 

     " Thanks for a wonderful time Zane. I gotta go my parents will be home by ten." 

     " Ya I gotta go too." We both stand up and clean up the place. Just when we were done I heard a tree branch crunch and I stand still. I try to tell Zane but he stepped on a twig and the crack sounded the park. 

     " Who is there?" A voice said. I see light from a flashlight heading our way but it was still far. " If it's one of you teenagers again I'll call the police." Zane takes my hand and his backpack and we both start running. I'm out of breath and I stop for a second. I turn around and I see the guy is gone. No lights of his flashlights are in sight. 

     " I think we lost him." I said 

     " Ya we did, are you ok?" He said panting  

     " Were almost close to my stop," Our houses are just a couple rows of houses away. They're split between a walkway and a large road called Firine Road. Man it's 9:57! I better hurry. 

     " I love you Zane. I'll see you tomorrow!" I give him a quick kiss then run.

     " I love you too Violet!" He yells. Then right at that moment I knew I shouldn't have ran next to the road.
