Chapter eight

Alex's Pov:

We finally ended up back in my jeep just driving until we reach town again.
The radio was on and soft music was playing in the background, although I could only her Paige's voice as she sang along softy, so only she could hear herself.
Only then when the song stopped and I looked at the time did I realize it was getting late, and we had both not eaten for the day.

So I looked toward the gorgeous woman in my front seat and asked if she was hungry.

She replied with a soft yes, seemingly worn out from the days events.
Paige eventually fell asleep leaning against the head rest, the orange glow of the setting sun captured her beauty, making her look like an angel.

I eventually pulled into a small town restaurant and turned towards Paige and started to gently shake her so she would wake up.

"What.... I'm trying to sleep Alex" she complained in a sleep ridden voice
"Were at a restaurant cause I thought you'd want to eat, instead of some fast food place" I knew this girl loved her some fast food but she's been trying to go on this new diet lately.
"Lets go beautiful" I said and ended up with her in my arms and finally setting her down on her own two feet.
"Alex?" Paige said.
"Yes Paige" I said as I grabbed onto her hand.
"When did you get so handsome, I swear just the other day you were a scrawny little thing trying out for football"
Her words were slurred and slow...
I didn't know why but I was so worried as to why.
I look forward and saw that putting her on her feet wasn't the best thing because as I let her go she started to sway side to side.

I made up my mind that moment and picked her back up and decided to rush to the hospital.

I had just put her back in the passenger seat when her eyes rolled to the back of her head and she slumped in her seat.

I grabbed my phone and called my parents, my mom answered on the third ring.
By that time I had already pulled out of the parking lot and was headed for the hospital.

"Mom you need to get to the hospital now I'm on my way with Paige, something's wrong...I-I don't know what to do." tears flooded my eyes making my vision blurry so I took the back of my sleeve and wiped my eyes clearing my view of the road ahead.
"Alright baby were on our way be safe we love you both"
"We love you to momma" my words came out as a whimper.

I looked over at Paige my heart shattering as I watched her body start to break out in a cold sweat, and her breathing become harsh and labored.

Her beautiful features contorting in pain.
I couldn't handle this, so I speed up trying to get there faster.

When I got to the E.R. I parked the jeep and rushed to her side and picked her up bridle style and shut the door with my foot.

I rushed to doors and pushed them open and started calling for a doctor.

A woman in scrubs came over and started asking what happened, so I told them what we did starting from waking up this morning all the way to the restaurant.

They told me to follow them to a bed and laid her down, they kept pushing me away but the look I gave the poor nurse made her rethink the decision.

I was able to follow her all the way back until a doctor came and told me it's for the best if I let her go.

Taking one last look at the girl I wanted to ask out today, I drop her hand and turned around looking back to see my mother rush in and turn to see me before I drop to my knees and cry....

This has never happened before.

Is it my fault?

Was it something I did, did I hurt her at all?

I don't know....
