Chapter 5- Tea, Biscuits, and Contracts
"Welcome to the castle, Alyse. Leofrick," Fendrel greeted politely with a bow. Alyse smiled and returned the gesture, although she was internally panicking considering the reason she had left the kingdom and was out in the woods during the time of the bandit ambush was because she wanted to escape the thoughts of him.
"Thank you, Fendrel," Leofrick said in his deep voice which caused several of the maids to instantly fall in love with him. Alyse didn't bother trying to stop herself from scoffing, and added an eye-roll into that mix. Her brother gave a slight glare at her, but it wasn't taken note of considering everyone was focused intently on the handsome prince. Fendrel looked as if his ego had been damaged badly, but he turned around and walked on.
"We shall provide a tour of the castle and show you the rooms you will be occupying for the duration of your visit. I thank you for accepting my offer," the suspiciously formal prince said as he entered the castle. It was quite beauty with marble floors and pillars and paintings hung in golden frames on the walls. Alyse looked at the main room in admiration.
The tour continued, showing the grand rooms where she would stay for the next four days, the meeting room, his study, the restroom, the Medical Sector, and many other rooms. By the end, Alyse was quite impressed.
"Alyse, I would also like to sincerely apologize for the way I behaved in our first encounter," Fendrel said bluntly as they sat in a room with a large fireplace and soft sofas. He was pouring some brandy into fine glasses.
"I accept the apology. I've also noticed an astounding improvement in your recent behavior since our encounter," Alyse said, taking one of the glasses and clinking it against Leofrick's.
She suddenly felt dark eyes scorching the back of her neck. It gave her goose-flesh, despite being almost certain what the cause was.
Tume had followed her to Laurence.
She swallowed the brandy down quickly and felt the alcohol making her head swim. But she still put out her glass, asking for more. Fendrel poured her more, and she gulped it down quickly. This continued until she was so drunk that she couldn't even properly hold the empty glass, causing much amusement for both Leofrick and Fendrel.
"Walk," she slurred. "I... I wanna walk." The intoxicated princess stood up without waiting for a response and stumbled out the door. Somebody pulled her behind a hedge and looked at her straightforwardly. It was indeed Tume, his dark hair swiped to the side.
"You're completely drunk," he commented obviously with a slight chuckle.
"I'm not!" she proclaimed loudly, placing her hand over her chest. He shook his head and put his palm against her red cheek, holding her still so he could get a better examination of her.
"How much did you drink?" he hissed.
"Well you were watching me so"-- she hiccuped--"you should know," she mumbled. He sighed.
"Fair enough."
"I wanna ride a horsie."
"No."
"Pleeeeaaase?"
"Wait, shh!" Tume covered her mouth as she saw the two princes walk out of the room looking around for Alyse. He cursed under his breath and slowly inched away from the path.
Alyse slurred some random words into Tume's palm, but her eyelids were drooping.
"Tired..." she murmured before blacking out completely.
When Alyse awoken, she was met by the bright sun and a painful headache. With a groan, she sat up and looked around to find herself in an unfamiliar bedroom. She recalled Tume's eyes boring into her soul and drinking way to much, but that was really all.
