"Come on Ari!" my dad calls  from the bottom of the stairs.

"Okay I'm coming, Dad!" I yell back. We have to go down to the city because there is this new doll my little sister, Hannah really wants. I don't want to go. It is just going to be boring like every other time we go "doll shopping".

I drag my feet down the steps and my dad is waiting his arms crossed. My feet manage to make their way to the car and I slam the door with anger.

There are tons of cars waiting in the traffic. I knew we shouldn't have come here. I mean every little girl would want the new doll.

But hours pass and we are still placed in the exact same spot of traffic we were before.

"Why aren't we moving?" my mom questions suspiciously as she steps out of the car to see what is going on.
I also follow and get out too. I squint my eyes to see what is going on. In the distance, I see what almost looked like a human wave.
The next thing I know, there is a huge crowd of people running our way. They are screaming and dashing as if something is chasing them. Everyone grasping their children. Why are they running? And soon enough I found out why.

There is a mutated human with gray skin and scars all over. It's clothes are ripped up and it's bones, I don't even think I should call them that, are sticking out. He is standing on someone's car. It is a zombie.

I don't think they're real, but there is really no time to think. We have to run.

I grab Hannah's hand, all sweaty and wet.

"Hold hands and run!" My mom calls.

I have no idea what is going on. One minute we are strolling in our car and the next a zombie shows up and everyone starts running. I don't know what to say, but I do as I was told and take Hannah running for my life.
***
We are soon flushed away from our parents and we keep running. Trickles of sweat running down both of our faces. Pants emitting from our mouths. But we still keep running.

Soon, after running for about an hour, we finally arrive at the other side of the city. I've never been on this side of it. There's finally peace for a second. Everyone is gone.

As we sit down for a break, Hannah starts sobbing. Tears flying everywhere. Her pale freckled face surfaced in tears. I wouldn't blame an eight year old who just lost their parents. We're abandoned from our parents and no way to connect. I pull out my phone, no service.

"Come on," I tell my sobbing sister as I get off the bench.

"I want mommy and daddy!" She whines through tears. "I am tired!"

"Well get up if you don't want to turn into a zombie," I say regretfully, knowing that now that I've said that she'll cry more.

Hannah won't budge. I finally just pull her off the bench and carry her. My legs and feet already ache from running so much and now I've gotta carry her. Great.

We have to find a place to stay for the night before we get killed. I don't even know if I could survive the first day of the Run.
