Have you ever realized that when you're waiting for something really fun and exciting, time seems to go by agonizingly slow, but when something you're not looking forward to comes along, an hour feels like a minute?
I can't lie though, I'm not completely dreading going to this party. I just wish I would have had more time to prepare for it. I've been out of school for almost six hours but it only felt like one or two.
I walk downstairs to sit in the living room and watch TV with Nana while I wait, but before I can even take a seat I get a new text from Aiden.
--Here :) You ready?
Honestly, no. But I had no choice at this point.
I walk quickly towards the door and call over my shoulder to tell mom I'm leaving, but before I can get all the way out she's already racing toward me.
"Hon, wait wait. Isn't your friend going to come in and say hi? I'd love to meet her, I'm sure Nana would too!"
"I'm sorry, we're already late. Next time!"
I had told Aiden when I first texted him not to come to the door and that I'd explain why later. It's not that I'm embarrassed to be with him or anything, I just told my mom I was going out with a girl, not a super attractive, popular, badass looking boy who happens to be older than me.
And who apparently rides a motorcycle.
I walk outside and hurriedly walk over to him, hoping my mom isn't peeking out the window.
"A motorcycle? Are you serious? I would have driven myself there if I had known."
"What, you scared?" he questions. And even though its dark and I can barely see his face, I can tell by the tone of his voice that he has one of his famous cocky grins playing at his lips.
"Scared of riding? Not at all. Scared of my mom finding out? Very."
"She won't if you hop on so we can leave."
I sigh and take the extra helmet from his hands before climbing on. I feel awkward. I've never been this close to him and now my arms are wrapped around him. I can actually feel his abs under my hands. He smells like a mix between men's body wash and musky cologne and it takes all my strength not to take a deep breath in.
When he finally revs the engine and pulls away I begin to feel my heart racing. I've never ridden on a motorcycle before. I'm taking on a million new things in one night and I'm not sure I'm ready for it all.
My heart beats out of my chest the entire time were driving. I wanna move my hands to sit more comfortably but I'm scared he'll think I'm trying to feel him up or something, so I sit still and stiff until we finally arrive at his friends house.
The entire block is full of cars and you can easily spot from the end of the street which house the party is at.
"I thought you said this was a small party?" I ask nervously, glancing around at my surroundings. It's barley 9o'clock and people are already standing in the front lawn vomiting.
"For Miles, this is small," he laughs, placing his hand on the small of my back. "Don't worry, you'll be fine. Have you never been to a house party before?"
I shake my head. "No, and this is barley a house. It's like a mansion, and it's literally full. And I haven't even seen the inside yet."
My comment earns another lighthearted chuckle from Aiden. "Listen, if it's too much for you to handle just let me know. We can leave whenever you want."
I bite my lip anxiously as I let him lead me toward the party. Before we even walk in I can already smell the alcohol lingering in the hot, humid air.
