****"C'mon," he says, leading me out of the room. "I wanna show you something."
Aiden's hand reaches for mine as he guides me outside, down his driveway towards where his motorcycle is parked. He hands me a helmet and we both hop on. I don't ask questions about where he's taking me, simply because I trust him.
The ride felt like it took over an hour, but in reality it was only about twenty minutes. When we finally come to a stop my mind is nearly blown away by the view in front of me.
The two of us are stood on what I can only assume is a small mountain, right on the edge of a cliff. In front of us is the entire city, lit up by millions of buildings and cars and street lamps. Everything is incredibly silent from this high up, but it's a very calm, peaceful silence.
I look over at Adien as he takes a seat on the edge with no fear of falling. I, however, am slightly nervous, so I take a seat a few inches back with my legs folded in front of me. Aiden's hand comes back as he feels for mine, our arms and fingers tangling together when he finds it.
"It's so beautiful up here," I whisper, finally breaking the silence.
Aiden nods his head in response. "This is where I come to escape. When I've had a really rough day or I just need to get away from reality, I come up here and look out over the city for while," he admits. "It's crazy how small this place makes you feel. When you're down there you feel like you could run the world, but then you come up here and you kinda realize how big everything really is... I always end up with really crazy deeps thoughts when I come here, like what the meaning of life is and stuff."
We both chuckle, but I'm not necessarily laughing because it's funny, just because it's true. He has a good point. I've only been up here for five minutes, yet I already have a million thoughts running free around my mind.
"So why did you bring me here?" I wonder.
Aiden is silent for a moment, as if thinking of the right words to say. "Because I knew you'd understand," he finally says. "I've never brought anyone here except you, and it's not that I don't want to show my friends this place because I do, it's amazing. I just wanted to have something for myself. A place only I know about that I can call my own. But you're... different. And I knew you'd appreciate it here. So now it's our place."
He's tugging at my heartstrings, I think to myself. I do appreciate it. And the only thing that makes this place better is the fact that he called it ours.
I rest my head on his shoulder and I can feel his thumb rubbing small patterns on the back of my hand.
"Do you remember the night at the diner when I told you how I had a lot of family issues, and how I wasn't ready to talk about it yet?"
I nod my head, not realizing that he can't see me while he's facing forward. He must feel my movements, though, because he continues to speak afterwards.
"Well I think I'm ready to tell you."
I sit up straight and turn my body to be facing him a little, but his focus stays on the city lit up in front of us.
