Perspective d' François
I hold a piece of paper regarding a request from a commoner to have a horse delivered to his family. The man he bought a horse from did a crime against the crown and is currently imprisoned for it.
"Lord Grimaldi, deliver a horse to Jean Babineaux's household immediately."
"As you command, majesty." My blonde-haired subject replies.
"I appreciate your obedience," I tell him.
I head to my office to write a letter to the commoner that his request has been granted. As I reach out for the feather from the ink glass the two guards oitside the doors open them to let somebody in.
Mary?
"Francis," instead, it's Bash.
"Brother. Have you found Narcisse?"
"Not yet. Have you talked to Mary?"
Even her name feels as if though it electrifies the cells in my body. My love.
"No. Have you seen her?"
"No. Would you like to look for her with me?"
I want to find my wife, but with the stacks of letters to be read on my desk, I need to be king first. Haven't you been king enough already to the point where you've lost your wife? Annoying is my conscience, but I have been letting my country fall apart for the sake of Mary's protection. It's time I am king.
"No, brother. You go find her yourself," I say hesitantly. "Now that Mary's life is no longer at stake, it's time I protect our country."
Bash says no more words, but just bows and leaves. I trust my brother will not fail in finding her. Even though none in the three of us dare say a word about it, I know that Bash still has Mary in his heart. I was to ask of him to offer her marriage after my death if Narcisse ever opened his mouth about my regicide on my father. If Bash and Mary married, he would have been by her side to rule Scotland once she came for her throne.
My love was and never will be never enough to protect Mary from the very danger that will always come for her as the Queen of Scots with a strong claim to the English throne, and a beautiful French queen that constantly bewitches the hearts of men. A young, heirless ruler. However, it is my love for her that is the reason why she will be safe from anyone that wishes to harm her. I would die for her, and when Nostradamus' visions come to life, the only man that will love her most then is Bash. Sebastian Valois.
My plans were deadly excruciating to think of, but I would rather have a broken heart than a loveless life. Mary de Guise-Valois is my love, and a life with her dead is a loveless life indeed.
