Part2 of chapter 1
Lila watched the wolf's muscles tense in preparation for another lunge.
This time she was getting ready. She slowly leaned down and closed her hand over a small, loose branch. The bark was rough and dotted with knotty lumps. Lila felt the bumps dig into the soft flesh of her hands. Three manicures a week didn't do much to toughen the palms. But she felt no pain. Fear had made her numb.
The wolf began pacing again. He was hungry, but he was nervous. Lila took a step back. If she could get to what was left of the body of the wrecked plane, she could barricade herself in the cockpit.
Lila took another step back. The wolf sat down and whined, lifting his head and sniffing her scent on the air.
She took another step back, he jumped into his feet and began to growl. Her heart sank as he slunk forward with a lowered head.
Fear made her breath come in a short gasps. A surge of adrenaline coursed through her veins, sparking her nerve endings back to life and animating emoticons. She readied herself for the attack.
