"Sort of" James murmured, pressing his face into her neck. Jessica unwound his arms from around her waist and studied his handsome face. His clean-cut good looks were a refreshing change from the dark, slightly unkempt appeal of Michael McAllery, the man she had impulsively married for a few disastrous weeks.
James seemed to be studying her face, too, and he looked pleased with what he saw. Jessica tossed her long blond hair off her shoulder and widened her blue-green eyes for maximum effect. The result were very satisfactory. His face broke into a melting smile, and he leaned forward to kiss her again.
"I'm trying to talk to you," she said, rearing back in mock indignation. "How can I talk to you if you're going to make it impossible for me to think about unpleasant subject?"
James wrapped his arms loosely around her waist. "If a subject is unpleasant, then let's not think about it." He leaned back againts the concrete wall of the athletic facility and locker rooms that were attached to the Sweet Valley University stadium. Gently he pulled her toward him and kissed her cheek.
" James," she said. His lips moved to hers.
"James!" she said again. All this admiration and affection was nice, but it could wait. She was bursting to finish her story beforw he had to leave. The game wouldn't start for another hour, but the coach wanted the players present and suited up at least a half hour before the game started.
