My story started about five years ago. It was May 13th in the year 2004. It just started to rain when i stepped out of my apartment building. I forgot my umbrella upstairs, so I stood there for a minute. I closed my eyes, tilted my hear up toward the sky and smiled. Today was going to be a good day. The only noise I could hear was a ringing in my ears. People bustled here and there. I saw mothers being dragged along by grinning children. Men holding newspapers and breifcases over their heads. I saw a homeless man probably asking me for spare change. I smiled at him, reached into my pocket and pulled out a ten dollar bill. I nodded at him when he smiled at me. I walked another three blocks when the rain stopped. I smiled up at the sky again and looked inside the cafe I was standing in front of. I saw Gina, Quinn and my girlfriend, Maria. When she saw me, I waved at her and her face lit up. I loved how her bangs barely covered her eyes. She told me once that she wanted to cut it, I begged her not to. We have been dating for almost three years now. I wanted to marry her. I just didn't know how when to ask her.
I took my ponytail out and put it into a sloppy bun. I took a deep breath and walked to the door. Maria jumped up from her seat and ran to me. I pulled her into my arms. She smiled up at me and I smiled back.Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Gina and Quinn grinning. I envied them that they could talk and hear. But when talking to me and Maria, they use American Sign Language. I have amazing friends. I met Gina in college and then I met Quinn. I found out later that he liked Gina, so I set them up. I smiled against Maria at the memory.
Maria pulled back from me and she spoke with her hands,
Come back to the table. They want to tell us something.
I smiled. At her expense, I took her hand. When we reached the table, I sat down and pulled Maria into my lap, but kept our hands free. Maria signed first,
Tell us, Gina!
Quinn and Gina smiled at each other before speaking with their hands. When Gina was about to sign, I saw a flash on her hand. I already knew what they were going to tell us. They were going to get married. Gina's unecpeirenced hands wrote into the air between us.
We're getting married!
Maria kept signing, 'Congratulations' and 'When is the wedding?' This just ruined my plan. I was going to ask her tonight at our anniversery dinner. I didn't want to feel like I copied them. I bet he put the ring her in glass. When she discovered it in her drink, he got down on one knee and asked her with his voice. Not his hands. Which is what I'm going to have to do. Sometimes I wish I was normal. But if I was normal I wouldn't have met Maria. Maria is the best thing that ever happened to me. If I didn't meet her, I would be in an early grave. She saved me.
I felt some one tap my hand. when i looked up from the table top, Gina's hands were about to sign.
What do you think, Cara?
My hands started to fly, but then I remembered that they only actually started using ASL, two months ago. So, I slowed my fingers down and started again.
I am really happy for you two. When is the wedding? I can't wait to go.
To be honest, I'm not happy for them. They would get to say their vows aloud. They would be able to hear each other on the night of their honeymoon. I envied them so much. I wish I wasn't deaf. I wish alot of things, but this is the real world. Not some fanasty.
(A.N. I really hope you guys like this story. I can't wait to post more, if you guys love it. I already know what is going to happen to every body. Oh by the way, this is a girlXgirl story, with alot of twists. XD)
